    I think the extra year premium is diluted by the $10 million QO. It’s the ability to extend long-term that makes both of those moot anyway.

    Holtz plus Mukhamadullin is more than what Horvat got anyway.

    Holtz > pick
    Muk >= Raty

    I guess if one saw something in Beauvillier, that could make up the difference.

    There are virtually no contending teams besides Jersey who really has the cap this year and next year for Meier. So what's the market for Meier this season? IMO not all much as Sharks hope for. Gotta think this more of a summer move when teams know what the cap will be and what their own team look like and then maybe Meier is a fit.

    Meier is worth more than Horvat because he is better than Horvat.
    NJ probably only pulls the trigger with a Meier extension already negotiated though

    At worst a team let’s him walk and he’s a rental and he’s still worth more than Horvat

    He's also worth more than Horvat because, unlike Bo, Meier is actually an elite player year-in and year-out

    I agree. By letting teams pre-negotiate extensions, they could narrow the market for trade (See Mark Stone 2019). As he could easily say, “I will extend with this one team” (where he wants to play, or whoever pays him the most). That would create be a monopsony, and SJ would lose their voice in price-setting.

    Trade his rights at draft, they may get more bids.

    Agreed. But the danger I see for the Sharks if they try to want too much in a trade, the Devils for example just might think instead of trading of Meier for a 8.5m X 8 years feel they might be better signing a UFA for about the same cap hit and get those trade pieces. There just aren't making teams with cap and fewer good teams with cap, and UFAs will be looking for a home with their last NHL contract.

    Yep, a teams that trades for him this season, really wants this playoff season to be a success. We are all wondering what the "buying" price will be.

    This is probably a realistic package.
