NMC likely restricts the return. For a truly cap-strapped team that needs double-retainment, though, they may get more.

This is an overpay for Toews. If he agrees to waive for the Canes, I'd say either the 2 picks, or the 2nd and Drury gets the deal done.

I can see one particular reason why a team like Carolina may find Toews to be undervalued: https://www.statmuse.com/nhl/ask/nhl-face-off-win-percentage-leaders-2022-2023-over-75-face-offs-taken-top-100

A 63.3% faceoff rate is actually incredible, and would take a significant load of responsibilities off of Staal. Toews' job in Carolina would essentially boil down to "win draws + send puck to Svech and Necas".

I am just struggling a bit to wrap my head around offering that kind of package for someone who can help with face-offs. That's definitely not what cost us in the playoffs last year. I could be wrong but I will stand by my assertion. I will be the first to offer kudos if I am wrong.
