A Full Couture Cap Dump

Created by: Hockyluv21
Team: 2022-23 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 6, 2023
Published: Feb. 6, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
A trade like this would help San Jose by saving a salary retainment slot for an EK trade. It helps Carolina by getting paid a high 2nd in a well-regarded draft class in order to take on an overpaid-but-still-good 2C.

our captain and a still very good player and a 2nd for nothing??? we’re not desperate for cap space we’re rebuilding and that 2nd will be in the mid to low 30’s

With San Jose rebuilding, isn't it possible that Couture has privately requested a trade? And the question isn't cap space but rather if Grier is OK with using two out of three salary retention slots on multiple seasons of Burns and Couture. San Jose is only allowed three salary retentions every season.

Ok but why would we waste a 2nd? Couture is worth something and here is technically less than nothing.

Because Couture's contract is perceived as negative asset (not on-ice) value at 4x$8M AAV. Trading Couture's full contract likely will require a significant sweetener.

Logan has 42 points in 50 games this year, is an excellent 2-way centre, a natural leader and one of the best penalty killers in the league not to mention he's a beast in the playoffs. But you think we have to give up a 2nd and get nothing in return for him. I'm sorry but this is one of the worst trades I've ever seen in here. Just plain dumb.

If Logan requested a trade then Grier would make it public in order to boost interest in him. This is a silly post that is troll level.

If we're spending that much on a 2C i'd rather just shoot for the stars and target someone like Larkin. Plus there's not really any incentive to SJ to dump Couture rn.

last year the sharks very publicly asked all of our aging core (vlassic, EK65, burns, and couture) if they were okey going through a short term rebuild essentially when Grier first got there. Couture and Vlassic were the only two that fully committed to staying in San Jose the whole length of their contracts

SJS doesn't need to move Couture and I don't see it happening for that.

You guys already got a ridiculous trade from us with Burns.

I agree though, CAR needs a second line center.
