Depends on the sweetener attached to Vrana, even half-retained.

That's actually and interesting offer for Kraken I think Kerfoot could be a good pick up but then Kraken would need to move Donny or Geekie to make room

i'd bite on it at a very low cost personally though I understand the hesitation

yea I think he'd be an appropriate add for Seattle. Not really mortgaging the future while adding a reliable, versatile vet into the mix for the playoffs. And you have the cap to do it this year, and don't have to worry about him on the books in the future.

i can't see the point in adding barbashev for a 2nd while trading kerfoot for a mere 4th. i know barbashev is a good gritty 3C but i just can't help but feel that's throwing away unnecessary assets.
i'm a massive fan of vrana's upside and would certainly take a flyer on him. no idea what that deal would look like tho. him & willy would be an absolute blast flanking matthews or JT.
meier deal is probably close to fair value, but i'm concerned about a) trading sandin and b) resigning meier within a reasonable figure

big fan of mccabe, think he complements this team very nicely

overall i really like this but as a massive sandin fan it hurts.

yep. Big sandin fan as well, this is the only situation in which i'd be ok with him being dealt (and the only situation I'd be ok with us spending for another top4 D really). Barbashev has the career year last year plus grit factor plus his career year last year. I don't love paying that for him either but good fit, good money, and really you'd have to pay a lot more to get another good C for that low $. Kerfoot would get more in trade if he made Barbashev's dollars imo.

Report by who? Wings beat writers are saying that the they are monitoring him daily so anything else you're reading is BS. He's got 8 points in his last 7 games (6 goals) in the AHL. You're not getting him for nothing and we're definitely not paying to get rid of him. That's just dumb.

There's just no real incentive to help Detroit out of this problem without gaining something. If the Leafs want to play that game, they could look at the AHL All-star roster and find better producers for much cheaper.

Nick Alberga of the Daily faceoff (saw it on @puckempire on IG)

never suggested you'd pay something to get rid of him, just can't see the return being particularly high and I didn't wanna try to estimate. My guess is somewhere between a 3rd and 5th round pick for him retained.

i mean the gain is the player, yea there's some risk but the reward is a decently impactful forward.

Like I said...who? This is not a reputable source. Yzerman and the Wings are notoriously tight lipped so if beat writers don't know then you can bet that some rando doesn't know.

Nick who? He's not a legitimate source. Vrana seems like a summer trade to me. Or we could just keep him. Why is it that according to the geniuses on CFACGM Detroit always have to give their players away for nothing? Wishful thinking. Fantasy Land. It's hilarious.

laugh Sorry man but Nick Alberga isn't a legitimate source, He doesn't know what's going on in Detroit. Yzerman is tight lipped on things like this. Vrana is still being monitored in Grand Rapids. Not saying that he isn't likely done in Detroit. But this guy isn't an expert.

Don't know how this is all in at all. Barbashov and McCabe isn't that much of improvement over Kerfoot and McCabe. Vrana is in the NHL, and even the Wings who still could make the playoffs don't promote him. So then the Leafs give up al those futures for half a season of Meier. Leaf certainly can't afford the 6m raise (from this post) for Meier next season.

Yzerman wouldn't pay to move Vrana, if that's what you're thinking. I suspect that Vrana DeAngelo's himself onto another team during the off-season.
