Too much retention.

The only way this works is if you send Nurse back with 50% retention,

$23M in retention, didn't TO pay a first for $6M a while back. Caps going up, so there is inflation, Ek isn't worth 11.5M at age 32 with injury risk, and maybe SJS are generous to get a deal done but that retention alone still costs a ton.

I agree, SJS wont retain that much. But imo EDM needs to get it to around 6mil. So maybe they try to get the sharks to 25-30% and another team takes the other 20-25%. A deal like that has never happened i dont think and i cant imagine Ken Holland being the first. Would be interesting to know what the discussions are like.

It's going to be hard getting the retention that high. Grier has already said he wants 18% retention. Now he's obviously not getting that. It'll be higher. But that's a quantum leap to what you're predicting.

I do think you're right about a 3rd team being involved.

The Retention line has been set at 2-2.5M tops unless more assets are added to increase it. Oilers have to dump 2-3 bad contracts to make the money work. SJ does not have the contract slots to do a 5 or 6 to 1 deal

If that's the most they'll go then SJS will never trade him. Anyone whose looking to add him wont have the cap space to make that work. And I don't think Grier wants to keep Karlsson at 11.5m for the next 4 seasons so I do think they'll go up from the original 18% they said.
