The middle six has been playing really well - sometimes the goals don’t come. This is hockey, that happens.

Adding a third line center is a really, really bad idea.

I would accept that offer as the Anaheim GM, and retain 50% on Henrique ($2,912,500).

Why do I constantly see people say trading Nosek is a "really, really, really bad idea". It doesn't compute in my brain. So Nosek is somehow untouchable? If he was moved no one would care and the team would be fine, especially if, like you do when you make a trade, you are trying to make your team better.

He’s the teams top penalty killing forward. Penalty kill matters. There’s no benefit to trading him.

Excuse me? Marchand maybe be one of the top penalty killing forwards ever, not to mention I don't know Mr. Selke Patrice Bergeron. Not to mention Coyle is a better penalty killer. Nosek is in the same group as about 5 other forwards on this team killing penalties.

I agree that we do not need a third line center and that moving Coyle to the wing is a bad idea. However, I disagree and think that we can upgrade from Nosek. Nosek is a good penalty killer... no doubt, but he seems to be pretty one dimensional. I would like to see a little bit more scoring touch from the 4th line. There are other 4th line centers out there who have more well-rounded games and could be just as proficient on the PK (ROR, Bjugstad, Acciari, etc.)

There’s a reason nosek plays more PK than any other forward. It’s because he’s really good at it. It also shouldn’t be lost on bruins fans that its a major positive that bergeron doesn’t have to go out and play 3 minutes a night on the PK. It saves his legs a bit, and allows him to play more in other situations. If that is your opinion of nosek, do you think Jim Montgomery is an idiot for deploying him the way that he does?

Since he got pushed out of the lineup, the Bruins PK ranks 26th in the league, clocking in at a horrible 73%. Prior to his injury, they were first in the league. Coincidence? Maybe, but i kind of doubt it.

No, I’m not Tomas nosek. Just a hockey fan with a brain that understands that penalty kill matters, and its pretty easy to figure out which guys coaches think are the best on the PK. So either Montgomery is an idiot, or you’re wrong about nosek. I don’t see much middle ground there.

The penalty kill is top in the NHL when nosek is in the lineup, and is their primary PK center. Why are we trying to mess with that? The bruins are 2nd in the NHL in offense, and 1st defensively by a very wide margin. Why are we thinking about compromising that to get a couple more goals out of the fourth line?

Not sure about the splits before/after Nosek's injury but Coyle leads the Bruins forwards and centers in PK time and shifts by a pretty considerable margin per Natural Stat Trick.

Bruins have been pretty top-heavy in offense and come playoff time, we'll need more contributions from across the line-up (the Staal line was effective in shutting down 63-37-88 last year in the Hurricane series and Bruins didn't have an answer). Yes, Nosek is a good PKer but frequently misses on high quality chances on the offensive side of the ice. I am not suggesting we compromise on defense to get production from the 4th line, but you are suggesting that ANY move from Nosek in the line-up is a defensive downgrade which is not the case. There are players who are more well-rounded who can match Nosek's defensive play while also contributing more on offense.

Nosek plays 2:39 short handed per game, coyle 2:37. Factor in that nosek played a month where he couldn’t take face offs due to an injury, it would likely be far more than that.

What I’m suggesting is there is no realistic move the Bruins could make that involves nosek going out the door that makes them better. They aren’t going to find a better PK 4th line center on the market that fits within the cap.
