Where do we go from here

Created by: Ennis
Team: 2022-23 Nashville Predators
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 14, 2023
Published: Feb. 14, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
After watching the BRUTAL loss to Arizona, it's very clear this team needs a new direction.
Poile has completely overstayed his welcome, and continues to show his team building and asset management has gone down the drain.

Hynes is a terrible coach. The constant mix/matching of the lines and physical coaching scheme has ruined what was supposed to be another good year stat wise for some of our players. There's no chemistry amongst any of our lines, and no spark either. Hynes has lost the room, and you can see it in some of the players.

The pieces could be there, but it's clear there needs to be a change.

The best course of action I could possibly think of would be to fire Hynes and find a replacement coach to finish out the season. Force Poile to do some moderate selling at the deadline, and bring in a new GM in the offseason, along with a new coach (if our replacement coach doesn't meet the standards).

Give our younger players some reps in this season, and use our assets to commit to a short re-tool. The pieces are there, we have a good mix of older players and young prospects, as well as having one of the better pools in the league. We just need a new GM and coach to put those pieces together.
Trades
1.
NSH
  1. Gurianov, Denis
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
Gurianov could be somebody who does well in a new system. Nino would be the clear upgrade, and the Preds get a 2nd out of it.
DAL
  1. Niederreiter, Nino ($1,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
A cheap, middle 6 scoring winger locked under term for another season after this. At 3m, could fetch an early 2nd+ closer to the deadline.
2.
NSH
  1. 2023 2nd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Could be any contending team.
EDM
  1. Jeannot, Tanner
Additional Details:
A middle 6 powerforward with tons of intangibles. He's gritty, can kill penalties, and plays 15 minutes TOI while talking harder matchups. As well as an expiring RFA. Could prove important to a teams playoff run.
3.
NSH
  1. Thomson, Lassi
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (OTT)
OTT
  1. Fabbro, Dante
Additional Details:
A 24 year old RFA RHD.

Has seen less ice time with McDonagh slotting into the lineup, but can very easily take back consistent top 4 minutes,

  1. 2023 6th round pick (TBL)
Additional Details:
Playoff depth. Any team.
5.
NSH
  1. 2023 7th round pick (PIT)

Better off keeping Fabbro and trading McDonagh and Ekholm if you can, one thing is clear though Hynes needs to go and Poile.

I made this under the assumption Poile could do some "light" selling. McDonagh has a NTC, so it'd be hard to move him. Ekholm could slot us a 1st+, but It's unlikely he goes anywhere before Fabbro.

No chance Jeannot returns a 2nd; intangibles aside - tangibly speaking, dude has 5 goals

If Poile says players are available a team that loses out on Chychrun will be in on Ekholm. Fabbro's value is low right now, I'd rather see a coach who know how to get the best out of guys coach him, like Karl Taylor. McDonagh will want out when they start selling and realizes this team is going no where the remainder of his contract.

Goals ≠ everything. He's not being acquired to score in a top 6. He'd be acquired to kill penalties and take hard matchups. Not to mention, 800k and an expiring RFA.

Good points but in the end production = value in the nhl. IMO, no chance he gets a 2nd but 🤷

It's definitely some wishful thinking. Ekholm and his family have stated they don't want to leave. As much as I'd love to move him, he might stay and be a mentor for the younger players.

Value doesn't always mean offensive value. Agree to disagree.

I would think Ottawa accepts. I’d even give another pick like a 3rd/4th too if needed.

I think the value is a bit rich... Fabbro is almost 25 now...

Brannstrom is younger and has better metrics, do you think that people would say that he is worth a late 1st/early 2nd, another 2nd and a 3rd/4th?

I don't think so

I don't know where you got that he has better metrics, but that's not really the case.

I don’t value Lassi very highly unfortunately, think he’s a bottom pairing player who can help pp2 if need be. Fabbro has only been okay, but if you look at teams that are successful, you take shots on someone eventually. Who knows, pair him with Sanderson and his metrics improve (and Sandy not stuck with Hamonic) hardly seems like a steep price to me. Also I love branny on the bottom pair he’s been very steady, so I would 100% be asking for a 1st to move him (which I wouldn’t).

Thomson + 3rd and I'd be fine with it

I'm not subscribed to this so I didn't see it before but Brannstrom has the 10th best xGA/60 at 5v5 among D-men (400+ mins). Fabbro has the 97th best

Eye test confirms that Brannstrom has been excellent this season, the only downside is of course his size in front of the net and his lack of results in terms of points, like Fabbro

Maybe I am underraing Fabbro a bit because I haven't been impressed every time I watched him this season

Would you pkg Jeaanot and Trenin to Jetsey fir a 23 2nd and a D prospect?
We don't have that kinda element on this team and it's sorely missed
