Calgary will be retaining nothing, and not trading Weegar without a top 6 foward coming back

You're getting chychurn... is that not enough for you? its very well known your team is also interested in chychurn. If you want a top 6 forward you need to trade one away first.

I'm not opposed to moving Weegar if it brought in Chychrun

I like Weegar, but if we were to move him, now might be the time before his new contract kicks in and I doubt he has any issue going to Ottawa

To gmonwy's comment: CGY has a few Top-6 Forward options: Duclair, Barbashev, Domi or JVR OR they could pay the assets to acquire Meier and either figure out signing him long-term in the off-season or simply Trading him to get similar assets to what they paid back, since he's still an RFA. I do think SJ is looking to move Karlsson out and plan to re-sign Meier, but I don't know what Meier really wants or specifically that he wants to stick around for a rebuild

We don't have enough. I'd call Toffoli Lindholm Pelletier Kadri and Huberdueau top 6 fowards. How many is that 5? Dube shouldn't be in the top 6. We have Andersson Weegar Tanev Hanifin and Kylington(when he comes back) as top 4 dman. Oh look we have a surplus of top 4 dmen and not enough top 6 fowards

Dube is doing just fine on the Top Line. He has 7 Goals and 5 Assists for 12 Points in his last 12 Games Played. He's going to be just as good as Konecny. He's shown flashes before (8 Goals in the last 9 Games of last Season), he just needs to put it all together and maintain that 0.80-1.00PPG+ pace. Hopefully finding & keeping consistent line mates will help him achieve that.

If Dube was more consistent he'd be acceptable as a top 6 but not on the 1st line.

Toffoli really shouldn't be either he can shoot and he's sneaky good at finding soft spots to shoot from but he doesn't do anything to generate offense himself. What Calgary's top 6 needs is a true sniper (Toffoli isn't one) and/or a big power forward who can do a bit of everything preferably a right shot. Timo Meier would be ideal a big right shot power forward who can score make plays and play physical.

Pelletier is a rookie just barely getting started at the NHL level it's hard to predict if he's going to remain in the top 6 for very long or not. We all hope he does but counting on it would be very risky.

Weegar is not worth very much.

He has 8 more years of term at big money and is coming off a bad season. There is also a time limit to move him before his NTC kicks in. That's assuming his current contract wasn't amended to include a NTC.

If Calgary trades him, it will look more like those trades we saw in the summer where it's for minimal assets with the cap and contract getting off the books being the main value component for Calgary.

This isn't to say he is a bad player like a Zaitsev, but that's the reality of these kind of situations in the current cap environment. Weegar is not getting what be would have been worth in a trade in the summer.

If I’m Arizona, I say no. Only because I feel you haven’t given the expected return for these guys. This looks like a lowball offer that would get the trade talks flowing. For Vejmelka I would expect a protected 1st Round Pick or a goalie prospect (Dustin Wolf? Mads Sogaard?) and a future 2nd/3rd Round Pick. If you want me to take on a year of Zaitsev at $4.5M with no retention that is at the bare minimum another 1st round pick. Then for Chychurn, you're looking at another 1st and some prospects (preferably 2 B or 1 A tier). The guys you added, Branny and Soko, don’t exactly fit the needs of a rebuilding team. In Arizona’s case, they would be a bit too old (24 and 23 next season).

Also, I know this trade should be all sens, but surely the Flames will move something else whether it’s a 4-7th Round Pick or a young prospect. It seems odd to think Ottawa does all the work and Calgary just sits back and (technically) gets Chychurn 1-for-1.
