Chicago Continues the Tank Next Season

Created by: boilermaker
Team: 2023-24 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 15, 2023
Published: Feb. 15, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This team as constructed will probably be worse than the 2023 team and will most likely earn a top 3 pick at the 2024 draft.

Kane and Toews didn't waive at the 2023 TDL, weren't extended by Chicago, and become UFA's.
Domi traded at the 2023 TDL for someone's 2024 2nd, but returns to sign a 2 year deal with Chicago.
Hawks couldn't work out a trade for McCabe at the 2023 TDL so he remains and could be traded at the 2024 TDL.
Lafferty traded at the 2023 TDL for Puljujarvi and Foegele and a couple of picks.
Puljujarvi qualified for 1 year at 3M. Hawks hope for a turn around from him so he could be flipped at the 2024 TDL.
Athanasiou not traded at the 2023 deadline, but extends with Chicago for 1 year.
Murphy traded to Buffalo at the 2023 draft.
Hawks acquire Zaitsev from Ottawa and Bailey from NYI along with a couple of picks as cap dumps at the 2023 draft.
Chicago misses out on Bedard, and drafts Fantilli who returns to Michigan for another year.

I am hesitant to give up Nadeau in this deal, actually I don't think I would do it.

Okay maybe we fall back to the Josh Bloom option as we discussed before.

Maybe Bloom and another pick next year.

Yep. Your take on the rest of this season seems totally plausible. All four trades definitely realistic. And that is one bad roster for next season! Well done!

These are all pretty reasonable. I think CHI should be able to do better with Murphy. But we'll have to see what the market says and how eager Davidson is to move players and bring in futures.

Edit: I still think McCabe and Murphy should start with a 1st. But again, we'll see what the market says.

Don’t think the Sabres move the Philly 2nd AND Nadeau (or Bloom)

I’d guess u guys would get either a worse pick, or a worse prospect

      Also keep in mind,
Buff36 is NOT our GM 🤣🤣

So what's with Bloom? He wasn't on Wheeler's top 15 Buffalo prospect list. Is he hurt, having a down year, or does Wheeler not know what he is talking about?

I know Buffalo fans love all their prospects and I'm envious of you. But sooner or later you have to trade some of them for some veteran pieces to fill in the holes in your roster. Down the road, you're not going to advance far in the playoffs with 20 players in their early to mid 20's on the roster. And sooner or later these prospects are going to lose their waiver exemptions, so it's either play on the parent club or risk losing them for nothing via waivers. Just my two cents.

Thanks for letting everyone know that, I guess with being AGM's on a Fans Hockey Site some might not have known that these are fake.

Well I’m not sure if you were looking at a more updated list
*if so, please post a link
But half the guys on this list aren’t prospects anymore, they’re on the Sabres roster & playing regularly
      Guys at numbers: 1, 2, 3, 5, 9, & 10 are all playing for us

I think it’s more that we’re stacked with guys that would fall into the tier of “B level” prospects
While most teams have 5 or so guys in this tier, we’ve got at least a dozen
So i guy like Bloom was ranked 19th on the list i posted the link to, but really, you could flip a coin between him & anyone from 11 on imo

I’ve never seen him play other than highlights, & everyone’s highlights look good. Everything I’ve read on him seems to be fairly positive though, & he seems to be progressing nicely. Way too soon to guess what he’ll end up being though.
Rank seems to be from career AHLer to decent middle6 guy

But you’re right- we are overloaded & don’t have room to give all these guys the chance they deserve
Makes total sense to move some along in packages to get a good player to help us

Just think MarJala and Lindgren have had decent years. 10-15 is probably a Dice Toss in the system.

Here's a link to a recent Athletic story by Scott Wheeler describing the top 15 Sabre prospects. I used it as a refernce when making the Buffalo trade above. One man's opinion for sure. As for the Murphy return, besides the 2nd round pick and for reasons discussed earlier, I think you can part with someone decent. My whole thought process with this particular ACGM proposal was to construct a bad 2023-24 Chicago team that would be in contention for another top 3 pick next summer, and also get a young forward from you who can contribute in 2 or 3 years.

I couldn’t read it bc i don’t pay for the athletic
      Thanks anyways
      It’s probably in the ballpark
But like i said, after the first 6-8 guys, you could probably group the next 12-15 guys in the same tier & number them however

Here's a cut and paste from the article.....

The Sabres’ prospect pool breaks down into three tiers divided as such: 1-3, 4-8, 9-15.

      1 Matthew Savoie
      2 Jiri Kulich
      3 Noah Ostlund

      Thanks
I agree the tier cutoff is after 8
Bloom fits into the next tier, which roughly goes from 9 to about 20 or so
