I was thinking that, my initial thought was a lower level prospect, but getting rid of the murray contract would be big and allow a bigger fish in another move

The Leafs say no.

There's no need to move Murray. When healthy he's decent, and Sammy has been excellent this year, so he's just a back up.
Bert is a shell of his former self this year, with no guarantee to improve. Ned isn't a need or a fit.
Shelling out a first and one of our best prospects just doesn't make sense.

The key on Murray is he's not healthy, and he's a huge cap hit. moving Murray facilitates more impactful moves. I do agree, the compensation is probably too high though

LOL Yzerman would jump on this in seconds. Knies would replace Tyler next season and you get a 2023 first? You’re joking right

But if he's not healthy, he's on LTIR and the Leafs get cap relief.

He's not on LTIR, and they need a capable backup that isnt on LTIR. They aren't able to take on salary past this year with him still there

Stevie is not going to help a division rival for a late first round pick and for a goalie who is constantly injured.
