If term is what he's after then he's not going to get fair value. You can't lose 40 points of production and expect a 73 point worthy contract.

Buyout Holl.
Seider gets at least a mil more.
Cossa will be in Grand Rapids.
Can't survive an NHL season with just 6D.
Toews will never play NHL hockey again.
Walman will play on the top pair with Seider.
Ghost should be replaced with a D who actually plays D like Roy.
The Bert ship has sailed.
Need 13 forwards.</div></div>
Montour has taken a massive step back in terms of production this year. 73 points in 2022 to 33 points in 2023. He either takes a 1 year prove it contract with someone else or if he wants term then he takes a 4.5-5.5m contract. Count on it

Laine
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lancebmx</b></div><div>Laine is not a centre. He is also not the type of player we want in Detroit. Doesn't make sense for Columbus too do that either.</div></div>
After being scratched I believe there is some rumblings he may want out of Columbus. He's been experimenting as a center this season and is going through a really tough stretch in his career. The Wings are currently one of the highest scoring teams in the league and adding him makes them that much more dangerous offensively. I think Laine slots in as a first or second line wing where we can utilize his shot, especially on the powerplay. He is clearly struggling with his role in columbus and a change of scenery may be the best for both parties. I think any thoughts that he doesn't 'fit' what we're going for is overblown personally. They took a chance on Vrana after all. As far as the trade goes I think salary retention is far fetched, but not impossible. Columbus also doesn't have a 2nd round pick. The Wings may be willing to give up the Boston pick in exchange for more retention/contracts.
I think it's clear that Columbus is going to be rebuilding for the foreseeable future. Laine is clearly unhappy and the organization may want out sooner than people think. Detroit is on it's way up and Laine could definitely help them.

And before you say, then they won't be able to ice a team, this is literally what you guys have said since Nylander first signed his 2nd contract. 5 straight years of the same thing and it's been wrong the whole time. Now the caps going up big time and they don't have any bad long term deals.</div></div>
The Leafs have to pay Samsonov and they are already 3.2m over the cap. If they put Murray on LTIR that gives them 1.5m of space. Samsonov is getting 3.5-4m easily through arbitration. I don't see how they can fit Nylander this year unless one of their big players goes on LTIR to start the season.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MoSeider53</b></div><div>David Perron = 2nd round pick.
Sharks pass, Not enough there for Erik Karlsson outside of William Wallinder.
Leafs pass, Nowhere even close to the ballpark for William Nylander.
And i'm pretty sure that Olli Maatta is worth more than just FC.</div></div>
Sharks are going to have to bend eventually if they want to get any assets in return for Karlsson. He's not fetching multiple 1st round picks with the cap situation right now. If he gets injured next season his value will plummet and his contract will literally become untradeable. Chiarot could easily be moved if a 3rd team entered the trade (Anaheim/Chicago) since they both need defenseman right now.
Maata is a cap dump to free up space for the newcomers.
Fabbri is a unique asset to trade as he could easily have his salary hidden on LTIR due to multiple injuries which gives the leafs cap flexibility, or he could play and produce 40-50 points at a low AAV. They literally cannot start the season without moving on from 6-8m of salary. If he is serious about not signing until free agency next year that drastically reduces his trade value as it could turn into a debrincat/ottawa type situation.

Two 2nd round picks and a player that either gets you 50 points at a low AAV or is on injured reserve isn't a good deal for a cap strapped team who can't afford to pay the player moving on after this season?

I don't think San Jose would turn down that deal. They get a high end defensive prospect, a veteran defenseman, a 1st round pick and a 3rd round pick right when they enter a full rebuild.

I actually think Chiarot would get claimed on Waivers if exposed. Chicago and Anaheim are trying to get physical to protect their stars and both of them need multiple players on the back end.

The cap is going to rise by 4m+ after this season on top of multiple large contracts falling off the books. They are looking at 40m+ in cap space in 2024-2025 without these trades.
You sign Seider to a 8x8, Raymond to a bridge deal in the 4x6 range, Rasmussen at 4x4, Bergeren 4x4, and lock up Scheifele to a 4x6. This is with them all demanding top dollar. You could 100% make this roster work next year and it would get better every year with the cap rising. Eventually Kasper, Danielson, and Axel Sandin Pellikka would join the group as well at some point. If you get the guys in RFA to settle for a more team friendly deals you would have a ton more options in the 2024 FA as well.

I'm sorry but what exactly do you think you're going to get for a player with a injury riddled past at 11.5 a season? The return will be extremely similar to this. No contender is giving up anything even close to this without significantly more retention. Pittsburgh or the Canes could give multiple late round 1 picks but they will want 35-40% retained to fit under the cap.

Karlsson Red Wings
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hookuh</b></div><div>Detroit is obviously selling off some assets now so why would they bring in a veteran</div></div>
They need an elite defenseman who can captain our PP. We struggle to generate offense from our D and Karlsson is a massive upgrade over Hronek. On top of that we have quite a few swedish players in the pipeline who could definitely use a mentor the next few seasons (Edvinsson, Soderblom, Raymond,Berggren, etc). If the Wings can get him at 35-40% retained he will definitely improve their playoff odds this year, and significantly improve them in 2024. The bottom line is the Wings need to start playing in competitive games to get valuable experience, and if Karlsson is healthy he will definitely help them get there.

You wouldn't take 4 years of Karlsson at 7.5m? The Wings are on the cusp of entering the window to compete and norris candidates don't exactly fall off of trees. In my opinion trading for him makes more sense then going after any defenseman without years of term left on their deal. He's an elite player who would be a instant boost to our powerplay and a veteran presence which this team desperately needs as it nears playoff contention.
