Don't get rid of Murray, he's been solid, underpay on Sammy, Meier probably wants 9.5 Kyle Clifford is complete trash so we either gonna bring up Knies or Holmberg. ROR getting old but he's good value.

I think both Samsonov and O'Reilly will get more. I don't think the Habs have any interest in taking on Murray, they've got Allen's new contract just starting and Montembault has been playing well.

The reality of a Meier deal in Toronto would be that either Nylander or Bunting would be moving on for the Leafs to keep him past the playoffs. There just isn't the cap room.

I'd be okay with taking Murray if we just needed a body to throw in net, but no room for him with Montembault and Allen already signed for next year.
Would take more than a 4th if we're just taking his cap hit without actually using him.

Montreal would be doing a Leafs a favour by taking Murray cap off the Leafs for just a fourth rounder.
To me it seems so counter productive for the Leafs to acquire Meier. First it's lot of futures to give up for him, and then he's being paid at 8.8m (by this post) more than he deserves; Leafs are much better to spend that 8.8m more wisely and keep their young assets.
8.8m for Meire forces to Leafs to underpay Bunting (he likely walks if the Leafs can only afford 4m), ZAR is not a third liner Leafs. Clifford is not an NHLer.l. ROR likely doesn't sign for so little. Samsonov gets offered sheeted and lost if the Leafs can only pay him 2.2m.
I've seen hundreds of Meier's to the Leafs trades posts. Can't think of one that makes cap sense and future sense for the Leafs starting next season.

That's why the Leafs should stay away from Meier....if he wants 9.5m or any team would pay him that. Among forwards he ranks 50th in points per game. 13th among LWers. The 50th PPG forward makes 7.142m. Overpay to acquire, overpay to resign him. IMO that's just terrible asset management for the Leafs to take on Meier.

Leafs decline MTL trade and potentially Meier trade but everything else is pretty solid

Meier is reported at between 8 and 9 mil for an extension.

Bunting moving on is possible, Nylander isn't going anywhere he's signed for next season anyway. The Leafs can actually make Meier at 8.5m (reported 8-9m) work long term. Kerfoot and Holl go UFA this summer, Matt Murray gets moved and you have the cap space for it. And then it jumps more significantly per year starting next season.
