What I would do
I dont want Carter Hart for that, and as a Flyer fan above pointed out, it wouldn't get the deal done anyway. In no world should the Habs be making this move right now

Interesting how you over-valued Drouin & Dads but undervalued Eddy. I guess you just want his salary off the books?</div></div>
Meh, Eddy was great during the run but he's been banged up a couple years now and I don't think he's a step up from any of the young D, his vet presence is valuable but I'm not sure he's getting more than a 2nd if he plays a full year anyway, dumping the cap would also be nice. Pulijarvi is risky but worth it for a declining asset like Eddy imo

Read the description brother, in this scenario the Sharks have already traded Timo for a haul! Devils are grabbing him from that team if they dont agree to a contract but as other comments have pointed out thats very unlikely.

I don’t think it can be as simple as a third round pick however. Although the qualifying offer of 10 million might not be the most attractive thing in the world, it still gives team control until after 2023/2024 season. So for that reason you’re still going to have to pay a decent price to make a trade. Although, it would definitely would be less than the ask is right now.</div></div>
Thats a good point, would be more than a 3. Anyone willing to trade the assets necessary to acquire him would be willing to eat the 1 year/$10m QO if it came to that

You may not want to pay that price, but I'm sure another team can out do a 2023 3rd round pick as draft comp for this years draft, B prospect and '24 2nd but to each their own. Enjoy the deadline

Dealt with injuries and hasn't been as good this year, but 30 in 68 games last year? The Canes have a lot of good prospects but Heimosalmi isn't one of the top ones, I like Bert to the Canes tbh, the fit is good and he plays a game Rod would appreciate but I think you have to commit higher value assets

That is hardly light on value. Bertuzzi’s value isn’t very high.</div></div>
At this price the Wings take their ball and go home. Why trade a 30 goal scorer with an edge for pennies on the dollar? Adding a useful D in as well, greedy

I don't necessarily disagree on Drouin, I just don't want to get next to nothing for him and see him find his game somewhere else. And (we've said it before) but maybe bumping him down the lineup in less of a spotlight role will take some pressure off him. His 5.5M could certainly be better allocated

Trading Poehling, Mete and a first would have been a massive mistake. Shaw has also been a forechecking and net front force. What the Habs did was exactly what they should have done.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MelonVK</b></div><div>I'd say:
Vegas - Somehow the team that tried to be bad has plenty of cap space and a competative team. I think they beat out Arizona in basically every way possible.
Rangers - At least if Panarin or someone like that signs
Vancouver - I think he'd like it there, team on the rise, Swedes
Colorado - Might not have the money, but in an otherwise great spot
Florida - Talks have been about Panarin/Bob, but Karlsson would be immense there as well
Chicago - I think their rep still holds up, they could be in for a push with multiple FA's as well
Dallas - Might look for that 2C first, but they could potentially fit both.
Outsiders that need to shed cap could be Minnie, Boston, even Toronto/Tampa tbh</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jah1722</b></div><div>Vegas doesn’t have the cap space with stone extension. They have like $5M and have to re-sign William Karlsson.</div></div>
Florida has been clearing space, they'll make an offer at the very least, Vancouver is another. I'm interested to see how much hes going to ask for, I could see the number being set around 12+. Open market will drive the price up too, if he gets there

Brannstrom is more highly touted than Brook. Also, I don't want the Habs to make this kind of trade, they're not Cup contenders like Vegas, better to see what we have in Brook and continue to build through the draft.

tdl - cbj trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaptainFlynnt</b></div><div>My asking price for Tatar earlier was, from Dallas:
- Jason Robertson, a 2nd, and a 3rd round pick.
<a href="http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=187397" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=187397</a>
Instead, Dallas chose to give up a conditional 2nd (which could become a 1st), and a conditional 3rd (which will become a 1st if they re-sign Zuccarello). So potentially a 2nd (or a 1st) and a 3rd for a rental, or a 2nd (or a 1st) and a 1st for resigning a 31 year old.
My asking price for Benn was, from Washington:
- A 2nd round pick.
Instead WSH acquired Jensen and a 5th for Bowey (a former 2nd round pick now NHL dman) and a 2nd.
So honestly I think both teams could have arguably done better with my asking prices, but that is up for debate.
The point is my return would have been:
Robertson, two 2nd round picks, and a 3rd. Which I think is a lot better than Texier and a decent dman in the KHL. Do you remember darren dietz? He is lighting up the KHL right now, Gravikov isn't making much noise.
Regardless I've since changed my mind about trading Tatar and Benn, they are too important to this team right now. Tatar is a gmae changer offensively and Benn is a solid 3rd pair guy, who might even re-sign with the habs.
Edit:
By the way, ylonen is having a better rookie season in the liiga than texier, so why exactly do we need Texier? Tatar is already a top 6 NHL forward. Texier is not guaranteed to be one. Lehkonen had great numbers in the Liiga as well and he is currently a 4th liner.</div></div>
I appreciate the response, I understand playoff experience is important to a young team, and Tatar and Benn are both players that younger Habs can learn from, but at the end of the day I think if a team thats missed out on Stone or Panarin etc. come knocking for an excellent goal scorer the Habs should be willing to listen. Good point about Liiga, prospects are always a gamble.
Go Habs!

Texier is playing and excelling in Liiga, and Garvikov is doing the same in the KHL, he could step in next year and become the LHD they've been looking for. Not top pairing but a top 4. I love the way the Habs have played this year, but Tatar is having a career year and selling now that Dzingel and Duchane are off the market is smart imo. Maybe a richer deal with different prospects/picks/roster player, but getting a younger asset is the right move for the future.

I dont hate either deal, but i just dont totally see why. You're trading 3 picks away for 5-8 games of Elliott. Niemi has to be better, but i don't think the difference between those two is worth the draft capital.
