The Deep Line

Created by: GMBL
Team: 2022-23 Seattle Kraken
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 17, 2023
Published: Feb. 17, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Seems like Donskoi is done and I'm guessing on TDL Day (or around it), he'll be transferred to LTIR. Seems to be the same for Driedger.
Trades
1.
SEA
  1. Klingberg, John ($3,500,000 retained)
ANA
  1. Borgen, William
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (SEA)
Additional Details:
Maybe the lowest of their 2nd round picks instead if this isn't enough.
2.
SEA
  1. Král, Filip
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
+ a prospect of interest (maybe Minten or Voit) or Robertson+a 3rd instead.

Kral is just a throw in for depth, they might just make a different move to add depth or perhaps the Leafs would give Benn or Mete.
TOR
  1. Soucy, Carson ($1,375,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Maybe he's moved to a different team for a 1st, if Chychrun and Gavrikov come off the board.
3.
SEA
  1. O'Reilly, Ryan ($2,500,000 retained)
STL
  1. Geekie, Morgan
  2. 2025 1st round pick (SEA)
Additional Details:
(top 10-protected), trade probably depends on O'Reilly having interest in resigning.

2nd (lowest of the 3) +Borgen? I can't imagine that the value of Klingberg being too high, not sure how much value Borgen has.

You'll probably have trouble finding value for Soucy. Seattle is a team headed into the playoffs too. If he's not good enough for the Kraken, why is another team finding him valuable? They don't really have a leg to stand on in negotiations.

I'm not too familiar with Seattle's prospects, I should have put + prospect in the description. I do expect the ask to start at 2023 1st+ a prospect, but I don't think Francis goes for it unless O'Reilly signs an extension with them. Even then he might not be open to give more than the 2024 1st. If he's interested but doesn't want to commit yet, then a 2025 1st+prospect. They might not get the deal done, but I don't think they are that desperate to add him.

It's not that he's not good enough, I just think they will acquire Klingberg as an upgrade over Borgen, and then flip Soucy to recuperate those assets. Doesn't really make sense for them to let Soucy in FA and resigning him would probably not be worth it with them having Megna. Megna was playing like 19 minutes with Karlsson in SJ, Soucy plays like 16, so Megna should easily be able to play those minutes for the Kraken.

Heh. No, the trade doesn't depend on ROR re-signing because the Blues don't even consider that.

They might not be good trade partners, but what I'm meant was the Kraken's interest in O'Reilly probably depends on if he's willing to resign with them. Armstrong probably isn't interested in a future first since they are retooling but depending on the prospect involved that I omitted (see below) maybe he'll be interested. Obviously Wright isn't going anywhere.

Since I don't know the Kraken's prospect pool, do you think a 2024 1st (top 10 protection) +2023 2nd (highest one) + Geekie for O'Reilly (50%)+a 2024 5th would be fair? Probably involves a low value prospect as well.

Armstrong isn’t looking for next years draft. If you aren’t coming with a 23 first you aren’t in the running. Too many teams looking for top end center depth and only 2 real options

Yeah, that's very true, I could see Colorado paying up for him, if they don't get any good options. If Toews waives for them though, I think they would prefer him at the lower cost of acquistion. I think Carolina is interested in getting a C possibly but if they land Meier then I'm guessing they won't. Minnesota I believe can use a C like O'Reilly but idk that they will be willing to give a 2023 1st either. Can't think of any other teams.

Something to consider though is while this year's draft is deep, the Kraken might not even be a playoff team next year. So, what the rest of the packages look like could make a difference. Plus, the Kraken's 2nd (or even the Leafs or Jets if they go out in the 1st round) could be pretty close to Colorado's 1st if they make another deep run.

All three of the 2nds belong to playoff teams making them at least back half of the round, and likely picking close together. Make it the earliest of the 2nd round picks and Borgen and we might do it. Symbolic victories and all.

Yeah, that's probably fair enough, I think maybe it would be the highest of the 3 or maybe between the Leafs and the WPG picks. Or they might be fine with even including their own.

Now that O'Reilly is off the board, how much do you think Verbeek would want for Henrique (with retention) + Klingberg (at 50%)?

I'd imagine he demands at least the same haul as ROR. 23 1st and a 3rd. I understand he's not the same level of player, but the extra year of retention and all. Also seems to be the last 2nd line capable center on the board. I think Colorado and Dallas are possible locations, in addition to Pittsburgh and Carolina.

I still think kling is a 2nd and a young player of interest or B prospect.

Meant to say Henrique without retention, but I guess with those other teams potentially willing to pay for it, especially Colorado or Pittsburgh he might not be an option.
