TDL Canucks as a Plan B

Created by: Boldirev
Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 21, 2023
Published: Feb. 21, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Boston - Probably going after Gavrikov, but this would be a good plan B. Canucks looking for a 3rd and a prospect (Lauko?) for Schenn. Garland IMO is worth 2 x 3rds straight up. In lieu of that the Canucks take back cap in Reilly, Wagner and Zboril and a very late 1st. Burroughs and Di Giuseppe are cheap replacements that can suit up as extras in the playoffs. Both play a physical game and suit the Bruins style of play.

New Jersey - Probably getting Meir, but this could be a plan B. Canucks looking for a 2nd for Boeser. Dermott (assuming health) is an upgrade on Bahl and rounds out their blueline depth. Ferland on LTIR makes the cap work. With retention and cap (Johnsson) coming back the compensation gets upgraded to a protected 1st and Holtz. If NJ does not make the playoffs the pick slides to a 2023 second.

Carolina - Not very likely, but maybe the eastern conference arms race pushes them to make a move. They really need a "2 C", but a big scoring forward is a nice plan B. A late 1st and a plateaued prospect is a pretty cheap acquisition cost for a forward of his ilk.

Washington - If Canucks can't resign Bear, the Caps are a good fit as they need a RD upgrade now and they have the room for him next year as well. Maybe only a 3rd, but who knows.

The Canes will take Miller if the Canucks will be retaining 100% of his new contract. Or you can add Pettersson and we can make the full cap work somehow

I like Bear but not for that price. Unfortunately all of these trades are heavily lopsided.

While the Canes do need a 2C, 1) they don’t need one as badly as people make it sound, and 2) Miller wouldn’t be played as a C, so making a trade for him to be the Canes 2C is ludicrous in and of itself. KK has really picked up his offensive pace ever since the turn of the new year, and he has done it without sacrificing his elite defensive game.

Besides, if the Canes were truly in on Miller, I don’t see Waddell taking on that extension without Vancouver eating half of his salary with a pretty penny attached. Especially since it’s a move that goes against the historical precedence of the Canes FO, and they wouldn’t even be able to buyout the contract.

Take Holtz and that 1st out from the Boeser deal and it's closer.
