None of this makes sense. Why wouldn’t Columbus just take a smiths expiring contract back? The cap hits are almost the same. Why would they wait for Boston to make another move if they don’t have a better offer? Why would Boston wait till they went out west to make a deal? It’s even more stupid if Columbus is retaining 50%. It’s a couple 100k gap for Boston to fit. Dude has been out over a week.

Columbus could want to use cap space for someone else. Plenty of teams have cap space but they aren't after every cap dump. The main point is Boston needs to clear cap, Columbus doesn't *have to* take Smith; their priority is to trade Gavrikov.

Gavrikov is Better than Forbort and Grzelcyk. I’m sorry none of you have ever watched a Jackets game. Stats are not everything there’s something known as Defensive Defensman. I think a 1st and 3rd is a lot but it’s not horrible.

The main point should be that gavrikov to boston makes absolutely zero sense, unless the price tag is about half of what it’s reported to be.

Gavrikov is not better than Grzelcyk. Gavrikov was good in 2019-20 but he doesn't have this level of play anymore and it's not solely due to his higher workload. You don't give up two seconds/a 1st+3rd for his services unless you want to make a bad trade. Bruins are fine the way they are.

Also, not that I only use stats but stats can show the impact of defensive defensemen (literally Vlasic, Carlo, McDonagh). It's just a poor excuse to justify bad performances.
