Deadline Conservative Sell

Created by: WranglerWranglin
Team: 2022-23 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 24, 2023
Published: Feb. 24, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Similar to 2015 when the Flames moved Glencross and Baertschi at the deadline to get a couple picks to help them take a big swing in the summer.
Trades
1.
CGY
  1. Hellberg, Magnus
  2. 2023 2nd round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
Hellberg can fill the gap until the end of the season or go on waivers if the Flames want to call up Wolf.
DET
  1. Meloche, Nicolas
  2. Vladar, Daniel
Additional Details:
Vladar is already extended 2 x 2.2, would be a great tandem with Husso.
2.
CGY
  1. Puljujärvi, Jesse
Additional Details:
Try get this man the Backlund bump, he plays a strong enough 200 foot game that he would be a great piece on the right side of Backlund if it worked out. If it doesn't he's the Flames problem to qualify.
EDM
  1. Lewis, Trevor ($400,000 retained)
  2. Mackey, Connor
  3. 2023 4th round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
D depth for a deep run, rule 6 UFA at the end of the season so it's just for the last handful of games plus the playoffs.

Elite PK guy eating a ton of dzone minutes, on pace for 25 ish points at 400K. Can center the 4th line in a pinch.
3.
CGY
  1. 2023 3rd round pick (BOS)
  2. 2025 6th round pick (BOS)
BOS
  1. Ruzicka, Adam
Additional Details:
Had a real hot stretch earlier this year, has always struggled with consistency. His best games are played with better linemates than he's getting in Calgary. Making below league minimum next season, fills a hole for cheap when Foligno, Nosek, Krejci, possibly Zacha move on this off season.

Goalies don't usually go for much. Stevie will be backup goalie shopping. But why not just sign UFA Lankinen this summer and keep the 2nd?

I like Ruzicka so I'd accept. Idk how Sweeney or other Bruins fans feel about his game, though.

Really?? Vladar was playing better than Husso up until recently when Markstrom has forced him into a workload that he wasn't really ready for I don't think. Hellberg 31 with 15 NHL games and likely on the way out the door this off season, Vladar and Husso running as a tandem could very realistically be 2 .910+ goalies running in tandem. Thought it would be a pretty good solution for the next couple years.

Detroit passes, Not giving up a 2nd for a backup goalie in Vladar. Cossa should be up in the next 2-3 years. Vladar should be a long term solution and with Husso and Cossa he's not a need.

Vladar is a touch younger than Husso, was playing better than Husso for most of the year. Was moved from the Bruins for a 3rd and he's shown real flashes of being a starting calibre goaltender this year. A lot of teams could be driving up Lainkanen's price Vladar is signed to a good deal for the next two seasons already. I get your point though, just providing my rationale.

Yeah but I mean saying Vladar has been better than Husso is just... wrong. Husso has been and played as a starter - has had bad stretches, but he's money when he's on and that happens more than when he's bad. He just needs a serviceable backup and Hellberg is more than sufficient. A second wouldn't be worth a goalie that'll get like 10-15 games in a season and will maybe steal a single game.

You think Husso is a 67 - 72 game guy going forward?! He only played 40 last year and his last two months of the season were 2 of his worst, is there a chance that he's a 50 - 60 game guy who needs a 32 - 42 game guy like he was in St. Louis. There are only 7 goalies who have played more than him this season, 6 of them are dead to rights starters, the other is Binnington, every one of those 6 goalies has better numbers than Husso outside of Hart's GAA but he's playing in Philly. Husso has been good enough this season but I don't think there are a lot of people that would be putting him with the Helebyuck, Oettinger, Saros's of the world. Which are comparable to the minutes he's logging.

I would be interested in Vladar but not at a second. Fourth or maybe a third round pick at most. Probably a better buyer or there for him. I think he has good potential but there will be serviceable back ups available this offseason that can do the same job without spending the pick.

Fair enough, could just be looking at the wrong team to target on my end.

There definitely would be interest there but I don't think Detroit would give you the most value for him. Maybe LA or Jersey would pay a bit more.

I’m in the same boat as you are. Sutter seems similar to Cassidy with his willingness to give young players a consistent go up in the big leagues.

One minutes ruzicka playing 1st line next minute playing 4th line and will blame the young guy for the line not succeeding instead of holding the whole line accountable.

Monty has generated a lot of breakout seasons this year in debrusk/ Zacha/ Ullmark/ Clifton/ Freddy and even vets in like fliggy and Lindholm( point production at an all time high with high level defence)

So I feel ruzicka could be another name on that list, especially if he gets that 3RW spot next to coyle and hall those are 2 guys that could help his offensive and defensive game progress well
