Description
I know many of you want to sell, and I understand why. But the GM said we are buyers and the Kapanen claiming gives us some cap space to add. Who do you want us to go for, and who do you want us to avoid?

Note: I like the idea of burying mcginn and bring up one of nylander/puustinen

I think Nylander deserves a shot at the NHL. He’s a gifted offensive winger with a high hockey IQ. Would like to see how he would do on the third line. At this point why not.

We could also acquire a guy like Jeanot from NSH or Raddysh from CHI to bolster the 3rd line

I would too but with 23/24 picks not 25/26 1sts

For D I’m in favour of McCabe from Chicago
Reported Price to acquire us only a 2nd plus a mid prospect but more if we want him retained

For a forward I like Henrique from ANA or bertuzzi from DET even tho that’s unlikely with Detroit surging for a playoff spot
Ofc I like Meier but we don’t have the assets

If hextall is refusing to trade a 1st we’re severely limited

we could definitely get Meier if we wanted to, but it would mean draining our pool of futures.

Henrique and Bertuzzi are great players but I don’t see either being traded given Henrique is week to week and wings are going for ploffs

McCabe makes a ton of sense if Hextall won’t move the 1st. I love that call

This is an interesting dilemma. 23 is the best draft in a long time, so in theory that should be the most valuable pick. But if we fall off and that 26 pick has the chance at a lottery, then we look stupid. But the theory would be that chychrun should help that not happen. I would be comfortable trading 26 if it is protected.

The dream scenario would be giving 3 firsts in value, but only actually trading 1 first rounder. Could look like 2025 first, 2 2nd rounders and a 4th (first round equivalent), Owen Pickering (first round draft pick)

The thing about nylander is his skill set fits better in a top 6 role, so I kind of like the idea of trying him with Malkin or geno because that would push rust/zucker down the lineup and distribute our talent better about the lineup.

This would have been a great experiment a couple weeks ago, now it may be too close to the deadline to risk it and have it not work

Makes a ton of sense, what happens to Brian Dumoulin in this scenario

I bet if they retain 50% they could get a decent return. Maybe a 2nd round pick from a contender.

I like the idea of burying McGinn and bringing up Nylander and Puustinen as I’ve been saying until deadline day and see what they do. Then depending on that, going from there.

I know I'm a little late to the party and some moves were made after this post - but I'm not sure there are too many players left to even go after at this point. Henrique might be the only one left that I think would make a significant impact to our area of need.

But yeah - McGinn needs to be waived for sure. Honestly, he should have been waived before Kap

I think there might have been a little wink wink between GMs that they would claim Kappy. There might be a steak dinner being bought by Hextall at the next gm meeting

I wouldn't be surprised. The fact Kap was waivered before McGinn, and actually claimed - something had to be going on behind the scenes. Although that would mean Hextall actually picked up his phone - which is a bit hard to believe.
