Question, if we have 11m in cap space (not to mention all the accrued cap space) why are we paying to move Bailey? Just bury his ass in Bridgeport

Los Angeles isn't paying one second, let alone two, for a rental goalie when we have more than $11 million in three goalies on the roster now.

Have you seen the numbers their goalies are putting up?

Quick - 3.50 GAA, 0.876 Sv%
Petersen - 3.75 GAA, 0.868 Sv%
Copley - 2.73 GAA, 0.902 Sv%

Their current best option (Copely) is a 31 year old career minor leaguer (this season is only the second that he's played more than 2 games in the NHL; never played more than 27 in a season in the NHL), and whose performance this year is, at best, slightly below average. He's never even had a really good season in the AHL (at least not one that he played the majority of his team's games).

If I'm the LA GM, I'm looking hard at other options in goal. Pretty much anything that avoids having to rely on Copely or the corpse of Jonathan Quick in the playoffs should be an option.

I've watched every minute our goalies have played this season. I don't think that Varlamov's 2.82 GAA is more impressive than Copley's 2.73 GAA and I'm not persuaded by the 9-goals-on-a-thousand-shots difference between their save percentages, either; what I notice is that Copley is 17-4-2 and that Varlamov is a UFA who will be 35 years old before the playoffs start. If Varlamov had ever been a starting goalie, your argument might have some merit; since he hasn't, it doesn't.

Varlamov has never been a starter? WTF are you talking about? He was a starter for like 8 years in Colorado and then a couple more for the Isles (including being the primary starter during both of the Isles eastern conference finals runs). The only reason he's not still the starter on LI is they have an all-world goalie ahead of him.

Now that I see you don't have a clue what you're talking about though, your Copley is just a good as Varlamov stance makes a lot more sense. Enjoy your first round playoff exit.

Thank you! Enjoy watching the playoffs from the couch.

P.S. You're absolutely right about Varlamov being a starter in Colorado. I had him mixed up with Francouz.

Thanks, I will! My guess is even if the Isles miss the playoffs, they'll still win just as many games as the Kings will behind Copely.

By your snide comment, I assume you'll be playing in the playoffs as opposed to watching them?

Yes, we will be. It's almost certain that Calgary won't overtake us.
