I mean if you look at actual defensive responsibility, Ellis is a lot more reliable. Zaitsev will grow into a better defenseman, but at 25 (Ellis is 26), he is not as good as Ellis was.
Spooner is a downgrade yes. But you are getting a decent 1st next year, in a draft with a couple bigger names, and a strong 3rd round pick...
Marner will be crazy good yes.
I wouldn't do Ellis, Arvy and a first for Zaitsev and Marner.
I would rather not lose Arvy... right now, I think he is almost par with Marner in terms of relative skill at this point (Marner will get a lot stronger in years to come)
I know Spooner is a drop off. But I would rather move him than Arvy in a Marner deal...
So if your demands for Marner are a 2nd line wing, a decent wing prospect and another piece, I was willing to move those 3 pieces... We can sub Fomtois for someone else if you'd like, or I can add another piece to that.
And just as a side note, I hate being called bud, so I apologize for lashing out in that response... I find bud as a sort of derogatory belittling term.
