I find the Matheson trade rumours a bit weird, but if the Oilers have cooled on Karlsson, Matheson would be one hell of a consolation prize. With his cap hit he should bring a massive return if he is moved.

He's been a 20-25 goal scorer most of his career playing on average or bad teams. I could see him score 30 goals with a faster center like McDavid or Hughes.

Since he got surgery for his back, he only missed 17 games over 3 seasons. Out of those 17 games, he missed about 10 due to COVID related issues. And even prior to his surgery, he only missed 23 games over 2 seasons. I wouldn't call that injury prone, considering the way he play.

As for value, i agree his 5.5M contract will be hard to move in today's cap situation. But people calling him a cap dump don't know what they're talking about. He won't be traded for less than a 1st, only because MTL doesn't need his roster spot or the cap space he's using.

Keep him then because he is not worth a 1st. He's got a bad contract that goes on way too long. He's had more seasons playing less than 20 games than full seasons. It's not worth it for anyone.

He's never had a season playing less than 20 games except his first two playing up and down in the AHL.

He played a whole 26 in his last year in Columbus! 26 total games! He's injury prone, cope with it

That's the year he's had back surgery. After that, he missed 17 games over the next 3 seasons, mostly for COVID reasons.

I don't get the injury prone narrative on Josh Anderson.

Imagine calling a guy that is a plus player on a tanking team playing over 27 minutes a night, sometimes over 30 mins while scoring over 0.5PPG as a defenseman.
29 years old in his prime and signed under 5M AAV but that is cap dump according to you! False equivalencies and nonsense galore. Matheson loves playing in Montreal and the Ducks would bend over backwards for a D like him.
