All absolute confirmation bias. Jeannot has 5 goals this year and got traded a draft pick for every one of his goals this year. That is called a market. Show me one report of Anderson going for such little price as a third? If you cant then you're a nobody yelling at the clouds. I can show you a dozen reports of him going for a 1st plus from the pundits.

Jeannot is also younger and is on a league min deal. He also put up 20 goals last year, which I believe was in a 4th line role, whilst being on a league min deal. It’s one thing for Tampa, a team who has been notorious the last few years for overpaying at the deadline, to give up that massive package for a guy who can put up 20 goals in limited usage, on a league min deal. It’s something completely different for Carolina, who has been historically notorious for not paying the deadline premiums, especially for players who are not a good systemic fit, like Anderson, and are on bad deals, again, like Anderson.

The Canes don’t need another oft injured winger. Paying 5.5mil for the next 5 years for a winger who doesn’t put much effort, if any, into defense, is oft injured, and doesn’t produce enough offense to even justify his contract, and spending a first in a deep draft to do so, very unwise asset management. And seeing as Montreal is unlikely to eat half his salary, there is no deal to be made here.

Jeannot is the exception. Niederreiter is a much fairer comparison.

So a 40 goal scorer with only 10 assists would only be considered a 50 points player?

He's not hitting 40 goals is he? That's the issue

He cannot defend, he's injury prone, and has 23 points while making 5 million a year until he is 33. He's got no value to any team that isn't Montreal

Missed less than 20 games in the last two years …
You are such a homer with low hockey knowledge it’s cringe reading your comments

Yeah but he's got 17 goals and you call him a 23 points player because it's convenient for your narative. That's the real issue.

Alright, let's play it your way. 17 goals. 14 at even strength. Nothing to turn your nose up at.
Niederreiter 18 goals, 15 even strength.
Niederreiter is 2 years older, but he's only got 18 months left and doesn't miss as much time. Anderson is notoriously injury prone. Nino returned a 2nd.

He's going to have to stop playing to his strengths and rack up assists to convince anyone here he's worth his cap hit.

Nah. Anderson will be PPG and Dom will tweet out some arbitrary metrics that change their value on a daily basis and they'll be copying/pasting his work like school girls in the back of the class to each other

Anderson is faster, hits, create space for his teammates
Can fight, etc
You can’t compare players with points production
Look at the Jeannot/Coleman/Goodrow/Lehkonen/Hagel returns

Nino is better defensively, can fight, hits, and is outproducing Anderson. Not to mention, Nino has a better contract. The closest return for Anderson is Niederreiter

Canes fans: everyone on this site (aside from Habs fans) appreciate you defending the wall from Josh Anderson trades tonight. Stand strong-morning will come, and there’ll be a “Anderson for Nemec, Holtz and whatever draft picks the Devils have left!” Trade, or, “iF wE tRaDe A 2Nd RoUnD pIcK aNd AnDeRsOn TOOOOO the (Ducks, Hawks, Jackets, etc), WHY WOULDN’T THEY GIVE US THEIR UNPROTECTED FIRST?!?!?! It’s a lottery…we’re all takin’ a risk here.”

I feel like the great thing on this site is that nobody trades players that they actually like away from their teams…they trade players that they know are detrimental, or simply not good. But, when someone points out that the player just really isn’t good, those some people will scream about how good they are until they’re blue in the face.

It’s the entertainment that brings me back 🙂

I feel like this is satire, because I’m confident that you know that none of those guys was making anywhere close to $5+ mil a year long term to be mediocre.

Or were you being serious here?

I am aware that he is making much more money, but you can’t dismiss what he brings too the table
He won’t fetch what the others fetch, but MTL would definitely get a 1st for him. You said people are trading players that are bad, but that’s not true. Yes some people will trade bad players, but generally those guys are homers. SJ fans were trading Meier, doesn’t mean he’s a bad player ? Right ? MTL don’t have a lot of forwards with value, but Anderson is definitely one of them. Dadonov Drouin Gallagher Armia Hoffman are bad players, not Anderson & Dvorak

I think you got it backwards.

Most here know Anderson is very well respected by the GMs and will certainly go for a high price much like Jeannot but a lot of users here wont admit that (every pundit has reported it) otherwise their subscriptions to theathletic and eliteprospects aka the hockey bibles are rather meaningless when a bunch of nerds like Jfresh that are too busy holding elevators for scouts at junior games hoping to be the next Dubas arent their confirmed Gods and they'll be left to actually watch the games and try to understand them instead of copying and pasting war charts from the comforts of their basements.

He's been a 20-25 goal scorer most of his career playing on average or bad teams. I could see him score 30 goals with a faster center like McDavid or Hughes.

Since he got surgery for his back, he only missed 17 games over 3 seasons. Out of those 17 games, he missed about 10 due to COVID related issues. And even prior to his surgery, he only missed 23 games over 2 seasons. I wouldn't call that injury prone, considering the way he play.

As for value, i agree his 5.5M contract will be hard to move in today's cap situation. But people calling him a cap dump don't know what they're talking about. He won't be traded for less than a 1st, only because MTL doesn't need his roster spot or the cap space he's using.

You guys keep saying that, but is he? He was traded for Max Domi coming off a rotten year, and hasn’t done anything since.

We arent even saying it. Lebrun, Seravelli. I really dont get the Anderson hate. It was the same for Petry this Summer. Oh he was cap dump? Was he tho? He got Matheson. Oh right he was also a cap dump except every fan base is trying to trade for him now.

Ask any Pittsburgh fan. Theyll tell you Petry-Pettersson is their best pair all year and many Habs fans were trading Petry over the Summer.
