The lead piece has to be your 2024 first, not your over-the-horizon second. We don't need to trade him for the same reason that he has extra value to you -- the year left on his contract.

Yes, because we don't HAVE to trade him. We can accept a first or nothing (or a second with an A prospect, but not someone as good as Hughes or Nemec, of course).

I for one am, Wood's been terrible for 3-4 months straight now but is somehow still getting rewarded with a regular spot in the lineup.
If any team dangles as much as a 2026 7th rd pick I'd want the Devils to take it.

Realistically I don't think there's much chance of Wood getting traded though.
When he's not getting outshot and outchanced he does fill a niche in being a gritty and heavy player, qualities which management seems to value in him.

Yes. Reports have been saying the Ducks could fetch higher than a second with retention.

Yeah he hasn't had a good year at all which sucks for him because his chances of getting paid this offseason have slimmed down significantly.

That being said when that BMW line is playing well they can be gamechangers so it makes little sense to trade him now. Just a tough decision in the offseason.
