i think newhook would have to go, newhook and a first would probily get the job done. We will need newhooks 3 mil to afford lindholm next season anyways

Cap goes up to what 84ish next year.. you lose comphers 3.5 coglianos 1.25 erods 2. Give Byram and newhook 1 yr deals because of injuries (byram) and under performance (newhook)

That's not how that works. He literally does not have a contract signed next year. And when he eventually does sign a contract it sure as hell won't be at the current sweetheart 3M it is right now.

giving them one year deals would be a terrible idea in my opinion. Byram is already a game changer, his money will only be going up and right now we will be lucky to get him under 4x4. Newhook has better numbers than dach so you have to think he's going to be getting a similar deal to him. By giving them a one year deal you just increase their bargaining power in a year where we already have to decide how to handle toews uFA

That's exactly how it works, if he doesn't sign a new deal in jersey next year he doesn't magically become a UFA.. jersey also obviously traded for him with an extension in mind.. and no it won't be for 3m but I didn't take any retention on lindholm either

But by giving them 1 year deals you use up the last year of the slowly rising cap and negotiate when they cap skyrockets

the cap moving up gets played into raises on contracts, it would be better to extend them longer when they haven't become stars than to try to negotiate when they have the leverage.

True however that makes it harder to keep everyone together

we are most likely losing compher and e-rod this year, outside of that we have enough money to resign everyone and fill the rest with a couple ELC's in foudy and maybe oskar and the rest with low level contracts similar to nieto this year

He can force himself to UFA with a 10M deal though or Jersey can choose not to qualify him if they feel he prices himself out.

Regardless there are 2 things you also aren't factoring. Calgary isn't rebuilding lile San Jose and Treliving isn't a brand new GM like Grier. You want a top 15 center in the league for 2 years under 5M you gotta pay up. Calgary would almost certainly prefer to sign him long term than get some late 1st and B+ prospects.

Personally I have minimal to no interest in Olausson, dont see much potential there. I would want a package around Newhook, Foudy, and the 2023 1st as the base

In Byram’s case it doesn’t matter, he’s a 21 yr old stud. Leverage the injuries, but don’t mess around with a one year deal he would be an OS waiting to happen and the more years you get just help you that much more down the line.
