I believe the retention would be for his entire term. It would work if the Canucks took someone back like Marcus Pettersson who I think the deal would be structured around anyway.

Regarding what happens when a player is traded with retained salary and they have a contract extension that hasn't begun yet:The league settled this issue with clubs back in 2013: the retained salary percentage always applies across the current active contract AND the extension

Yeah it carries over to the extension. That was a new aspect to the CBA. Per the insiders Vancouver is willing to eat money on the deal anyways

Lol moving Garland and Boeser are bigger priorities. I'm happy with JT and his production. There will be at least 5 more very good years of JT before Van fans have to worry about JT.
