Would have to be Knies for there to even be a chance for them to deal Chychrun with retention.

I would say the same but I also would have said the leafs wouldn't be able to make the moves they've made without parting with some top prospects, yet here we are...

That being said, I don't think they would retain 50%, but they would probably retain 1.5M as they need to hit the cap floor due to being such a poverty franchise. The market for Chychrun would also have to dry up.

Unless they are really high on Robertson which is possible, I don't see any incentive for them doing any retention unless they are getting someone that they would really like that would presumably be Knies. Maybe they do something like 800k to 1m retention for the above package if it interests them (assuming the market for him dries up). If they can get it done as presented here, then that would be some very tidy business by Dubas. Maybe it would be possible if they flip Holl for an asset as well.

Holl isn't valuable to Arizona. Better off to trade him to a contender needing a D rental and use the picks for Chychrun

I can't see Holland and Dubas making a trade. Remember Hyman-gate?

Let's be real, Hyman-Gate ended up being a win for Edmonton.

Got the player they wanted, didn't have to give up assets to sign him, and they couldn't give him the extra year they'd probably regret later.

Yeah but Dubas dicked Holland around. Kenny has a long memory. GM's tend to make trades with GM's they trust.

They are literally paying more in cap space to players not playing on the roster vs rostered players. They need to hit the cap floor. Depending on the structure of the deal it could be very possible that Coyotes would only be really taking the hit on the salary cap and not actually having to pay him alot.

Leafs and other high profit teams usually front load their contracts so that when they go to move the player, its just a cap hit and not actually owed salary being taken on. Not sure how Chychrun is structured.

I dont think this trade happens but its not impossible is all i will say. I think its more likely that they trade Holls cap space and use it to bring in a forward giving them 8 quality d and 13 forwards before even counting the non-roster players

Perhaps, what I do know is that Kyle isn't done. Gustafsson is more of a square peg than Sandin ever could've been.

He's definitely not done. Not even close. I don't know if that's good or bad. Too much turnover can screw with team chemistry. Even if it looks great on paper. We shall see! I was impressed he found a sucker to take Engvall for a 3rd.

Chychrun is slightly backloaded if I'm not mistaken, like a lot of the ARZ players naturally. If Toronto was sending Muzzin (don't think they would) then that would help them, but I don't think Holl really does much for them with him being a ufa and having a tiny cap hit anyways.

I do think the move for the Leafs is to move Holl and then try to bring in a forward but I think they will also keep their options open.

I thought Sandin might be traded last summer. I don't think the negotiations went well. I knew Dubas wasn't going to just give him away. But I'm not surprised he ended up trading him.

Guy's a stud, who's gonna keep getting better.

Washington lucked out huge with that one.

He's a player who was going to price himself out of Toronto and wasn't AS good as the hype... he will be a very serviceable NHL D and have a good career, but hes not the stud everyone in toronto thinks. This trade is amazing asset management from Dubas.
