Initial Creation Date: Mar. 2, 2023

Description
Apparently the Lightning are interested in Joel Edmundson. In my opinion Howard would have to go the other way since he's basically the only thing of value that the lightning have to trade since they gave everything else for...

I don't think they give up more for Edmundson than they gave for Savard few years back (1+3rd+4th (to a 3rd team)). So would be Howard+a 2nd with the retention.

Yeah I don't really understand the rumour tbh. Maybe one of those D-men is coming back in the trade?

I feel like Montreal would get a 3rd too just because they have to wait until 2025 to get a 2nd

Teams can always improve but Tampa can only really offer prospects at this point and they'll likely want to hold onto their best ones because they don't draft until 2067.

Perbix has really played well for them. I can't see him being traded. He recently signed a contract extension.

Maybe, but I don't think Edmundson is nearly as valuable as Savard was back then, he was a rental but still. Also, Howard could possible be worth more than a late 1st. The Leafs also got McCabe (50%) + Lafferty for a 2025 1st + 2026 2nd. So, I wouldn't be surprised if Edmundson with retention goes for less.

My guess is that they aren't offering Howard, and will end up with Kulikov or Seeler.

I think Edmundson (despite being injured) should be worth as much as Savard because he has the "playoff experience" GMs love (which Savard didn't have at the time Tampa got him)

Actually it's pretty easy to understand Montreal people are going to their favorite insiders and saying something to the affect hey TB has been asking about Joel (true or not) to drive the price up trying to create a bidding war.

Fair point, but for TB they aren't going to pay extra for that, so it might be like @Boltsradynasty said or that JBB did inquire to compare the cost vs someone with 2 years like Seeler who isn't as good probably or a rental like Kulikov.

JBB's track record show he really doesn't care about it. However your commentary on Savard is inaccurate. He had 37 play off games experience prior to playing for TB. Savard was a member of the CBJ who swept TB in 19

As far as this year, where the path to the cup is going to be a bloodbath, I think trading Howard would be a mistake. He just feels like the type of player who could excel at an early age since he's in Tampas organization. His numbers aren't great this year, and I've hardly watched him, but I get the feeling he could be big piece for Tampa in a few years and keep their window open

Tampa really excels at slow cooking their prospects in Syracuse. Something Yzerman started doing when he came to Tampa. Holland did the same in Detroit.

Which is why when people say ohh Colton is 3rd liner blah blah blah. My response is on TB yes ,but your team isn't as deep and given the minutes has a serious chance of going Marchessault/.Verheaghe.
