Description

Montreal can save some cap dollars for the 2024 trade deadline and perhaps pick up a player who they would like to sign long term. Overall with or without Dubois this year they have the beginning of a solid group of young players.

Too little for Dubois, but the idea is there. I would use Chychrun as an example (Arizona had a limited market because they weren't willing to take salary back, Jets will have a limited market because Dubois' preference of MTL is known).

Certainly wouldn't go higher than that as Dubois might come to MTL as a UFA anyways. Doubt anyone would beat that offer as well unless Dubois agrees to extension with the trade.

What about 2023 first 2024 first with protection kidney and Dvorak. Winnipeg likely retools or rebuilds if training Dubois picks more valuable

Believe Kent is going to offer the best deal possible for Dubois and if Winnipeg rejects the Habs wait a year.
Dubois is worth more BUT he wants to play in Montreal, advantage Kent.

Jets gonna take the best offer and if it's not mtl you snooze you can lose on a guy that wants to be there but money talks

Why does DuBois get so much less than Horvat, never mind O'Reilly?

Hoffman will be a 34-year-old one-dimensional rental, Edmundson is a $3.5 million rental, and Armia is a cap dump. That's a second, a fourth, and three low-value veteran but expensive players. If Winnipeg doesn't get a reasonable offer for him during the offseason, they can wait until the trade deadline and should get at least a first and a second for him. That package is garbage.

I think Habs fans are overestimating the effect of the "he wants to end up in Montreal" thing. I don't think that that assumption will necessarily affect Winnipeg's actions all that much.

The Jets easily get a better offer than outright garbage for Dubois. What an unrealistic premise.

No one is giving a first and a second for a rental in Dubois. Habs can wait a year and not have to give up anything.
Entire NHL knows Dubois will be a Hab in 2024-25.
