This is a win win for both sides. This whole trade comes considering that Ottawa knows debrincat will not sign back so they get a 1st and 6th for him while the wings get him for a good price

They aren't trading him in the division.

While I don't think he will be worth as much as some Senators fans think, the Bruins pick is very likely to be one of the lat 4-8 picks of the round. They will not trade him for that pick.

For a team who aren't division rivals, it will probably be a first in the top half of the round, and another strong asset. Similar to what Fiala went for less year, less than what Debrincat went for last year.

Another thing is that they can keep Debrincat as an 'own-rental'. If they make the playoffs, with their current level of play, that would be justifiable. They will have enough cap space to do that, but unless Forsberg is going on LTIR for the season, they will not have any cap to upgrade in net. Maybe they can attract a cheap veteran and roll with Sogaard after he gets experience this season.

At first I was thinking about that pick being at the end of the round. However, If boston wins the cup this year I think that bergeron and krejci will retire and then boston will drop down to a 17-22 overall pick

I think Krejci retires no matter what and I think bergeron is likely to retire. They will still have a good team though

No doubt in my mind that they’ll still be a good team. I do think they’ll take a massive drop just cause those guys make a huge impact on the team

I didn't realize it was a 2024 pick. I highly doubt the Senators will move him in the division for a 2024 pick. Someone who is not in the division will give them a package with a top 20 2023 1st. If they make the playoffs themselves, they probably recoup the Chychrun picks with Debrincat if he won't re-sign. (Although, I think they might just keep him as a 1 year rental)

Even if they decide to trade him that offer gets beat. Ottawa is probably a playoff team this season snd next season for sure next season. So a 2024 draft pick doesn't move the needle much now add a good young player or a good vet with term that fills a need will have to be added for Ottawa would even consider this.

I also subscribe to notion of not trading a good player in division.

Ottawa has locked up basically the whole team but Debrincat also gave up 7TH OVERALL plus more to get him this is a lose win trade

That was also when debrincat came off a 41 goal season on Chicago. I would say Ottawa is better than last years chicago team and he has not played as well this year on a better team

Still Dorion said the rebuild is over and we've traded multiple picks already this trade doesn't benefit Ottawa at all
