Happy ending - New Era thoughts

Description
Boston will be struggling hard with the cap, no matter what. What do you guys think they should do? Swayman for a pick that they can use in a trade deadline perhaps. Painful, but they don't have the room to pay him what he deserves, take Knight as a comparable for new contract.
If they win the cup, none of this really matters. I'm just curious, how would you solve their cap issues. Thoughts??

Don't think Swayman will get that return, but he is a guy that should be traded or else he will offer sheeted for second rounder.
Hayes....save your cap, keep those young assets. Bruins might have bit the bullet next season unless they strike gold with a very cheap UFA.

Over the cap with 21 man roster and not accounting for bonus overages.

That could be the other path to take. Do you think they should move Coyle to 2nd line center & sign cheaper UFA center?

What i'm also curious is what are they going to do with Reilly. IMO they should avoid using their future assets if possible.

It's really impossible to get two centres with the competency of Bergeron and Krejci...especially at cheap price. That's why I think the Bruins are going to "bite the bullet". Also the Bruins looks like their cap won't be at 83.5m as they likely will have carryover of bonuses which might about 4m.. so the cap next season might be closer to 80m

You realize the Canucks have Demko right? Plus Silovs has looked damn good in a limited sample size too

As good as Swayman is, the Canucks have no need for him

I do realise that, but there has been a lot of rumours that they are willing to trade him. I don't know why would they do that, but if you see what Canucks are doing, nothing makes sense

Don't see Boston trading Swayman. They'll bridge him amd then pay him big when Ullmark is a UFA and Swayman takes the #1 job full time. Ya ya offer sheet blah blah blah. What team can offer Swayman a deal Boston wouldn't match and the team would be competitive?

Bruins top 3 of McAvoy, Carlo & Lindholm are locked up long term. What goalie wouldn't want those 3 as half their d-men in front of them?

No need for Hayes, Bergeron is coming back for the 100th season. Lysell slots in 3 RW. Trade Forbort and Rilley ($6 million in cap) or buy them out.

Literally any team who needs a goalie could offer sheet as Boston doesn't have the cap space

so to answer the question what would i do , step one would be not taking on hayes at 7 mil . step 2 i would trade ullmark while his value is high , bruins currently have 6 mil tied up in goalies , so there is room to pay swayman and save anywhere from 1.5 to 3 mil to be applied somewhere else plus ullmarks return could bring in a you a young centre or d to plug a hole . step 3 would be to trade grizz as he has no protection could bring a decent return and quite likely the bruins won't be able to resign him next year anyways

Just because someone gives him an offer-sheet doesn't mean he has to accept it. Do you think Swayman wants to go play in a place like CBJ, ARZ or any other bottom feeder? No not likely. Ullmark is a UFA in 2yrs. Bruins will work to get Swayman signed to a 2yr bridge deal. He'll be an RFA when it expires and Ullmark will have priced himself out of Boston. At that point the Bruins commit long-term to Swayman when the cap is expected to be significantly higher. It also gives Swayman a larger body of work to point to in negotiations and with Boston's defense he should be able to continue to put up solid numbers.

we hear this every year , its bs , how many successful offer sheets can you remember ?i can remember 3 in the last 10 + years ,1 was matched 2 were not . remember kessel , toronoto paid more to trade for him than they could have got him for on an offer sheet

If push comes to shove, they trade Ullmark before Swayman. They're already going to be trading 1 or 2 defensemen and buying out Reilly, trading 1 or 2 forwards who are making $5mil+. This team will not look the same next year at all. They are going to be taking advantage of ELCs with Lysell and Merkulov at the very least. Bergie comes back to finish his career in the 100th season of the Bruins at whatever cap he needs to in order to make it work.
