Summer Wishlist

Created by: CoachCoach
Team: 2023-24 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 7, 2023
Published: Mar. 9, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Summer goal is to find a 2C and RHD. Other needs are adding goal scoring while getting a bit tougher to play against. Trying to find pieces to fill holes in preparation for the kids coming up (Kasper/Mazur/Edvinsson/Wallinder).

Feel free to throw out other suggestions. This is a "wish list" after all.

- For the actual roster, I put any trade possibilities, RFA signings (value estimation), and FA signings and took out regulars from this season. Goaltender is tough to gauge in regards to a back up.

Who do you propose at 2C? The only ones available would be by trade (weak FA class), and you didn't mention any.

The only UFA I can think of thst could be considered a top 6 C is Ryan o Riley. Which I don’t see him going to Detroit unless yzerman can convince him that the team will take another big step next year. As far as some of these guys, I’d rather sign severson without giving up assets to run the 2nd pair with someone like edvinsson or Johansson

Johansen/Chytil are the only two I put from another team. UFA class is weak, so I don't see SY pulling another Copp long term signing which could be viewed as an overpay. In all honesty I think Copp comes back as the 2C and Suter is re-signed.

Sorry, yeah, you listed RyJo and I was thinking Forsbeg. Honestly, I'm not sure I want him since he's 30, or Chytil since he's weak on FO.

I was planning on adding him but at 28 I just don't know the valuation. Is he wanting a longer term deal, and if so how does that look money wise?

Yeah RyJo was a thought because the cap doesn't hurt for the next two years, he has had a solid career overall, and the return may not be an arm and a leg. Chytil for the upside, but I am hopeful Kasper can become a 2C longterm.

Going back to Forsberg, that would be fun lol

Interesting names, schmaltz or konecny would definitely help fill the top 6 holes on the wings. I'm all for Chytil as a 2nd center if they could swing him in some way. I'm a big fan of his game and he's grown every season. The giant hole at Rd is the priority and idk how they fill it. Klingberg, severson, Clifton, Chairot are all options but none of them get me all that excited. I'd rather I guess buy Clifton and hope for growth than pay severson or klingberg and watch them decline. Klingberg would solve that giant Hronek shaped hole on the pp though.

If Klingberg wanted to do another prove it deal (depending on how things go in Minnesota) I’d be okay with that. That second PP unit will need some help, unless Walman keeps climbing and takes it for himself lol

Walman looks lost out there on the pp, it's not his thing. They'd be better off putting Berggren at the point and Walman on the half wall. Let him shoot, let Bergy handle the distribution.

Oh I completely agree he isn't ready for that spot, but his confidence is growing and he is pretty elusive in the offensive zone. Some didn't even want him back in Detroit this year and now he's 1/2 of a great unit with Seider.

All four of our RhDs listed should be available, especially now that we made the egregious strategic error of trading away our 2023 first (instead of the 2024 pick) in the Gavrikov/Korpisalo deal. The problem is that the Islander pick is a little too "good" for us, inasmuch as the prospects we should be looking at are in the bottom-third-of-the-round pool. Maybe something involving the Vancouver/St. Louis second is possible, especially if someone we like is still on the board there. (Pipe dream: Caden Price. More likely: one of the top goalie prospects.)

I’d say that all three of those guys could be moved from Nashville. Barrie probably being the most likely

I could see SY moving one of the 5 1st/2nds or packaging something to move up or back if he has a player he wants (similar to Cossa).

Nashville has some nice flexibility to go a bunch of different directions.

    Pass.

Would rather let Fabbro regain some value by next years TDL.
Ryjo helps us hit the cap floor while we re-tool
And If we retain half on Barrie next season we could probably snag a mid round pick+ for him.

**edit... nevermind. just saw its a wishlist. thought it was a future considerations type thing

Nope just a wishlist lol otherwise this would look very rough. It was honestly just to gauge how other fans (both DET and others) viewed these players and thoughts on either moving them or bringing them in before getting into value. I.e If Ranger fans were insistent that Chytil is just a no go, no sense in beating a dead horse about how a trade would look (as much as I am sure Boone Jenner / Quinn Hughes / EP40 type trades get love consistently).
