Ok at least you’re basing it off hockey and not nonsense. You have a lot of LHD for sure but finding a good RHD is tough in a trade. You might be better off acquiring an experienced LHD of some sort and playing Dahlin and Power on the right.

It's harder, sure, but it would add much more value to the team long term than finding another LHD to play on the wrong side. The Sabres are in a position where they can overpay in terms of assets for the right guy.

Sure but who’s the right guy? It’s not Karlsson even if he’s be a ton of fun to watch with your forwards. A shut down RHD is difficult to find. I can think of a couple expiring contracts after 23-24, guys like Tanev, Hakanpaa, and Pesce will be UFAs the following year. I could see Tanev moving but the other two aren’t getting traded this summer. You do have the money to overpay Mayfield as a UFA this summer but he’s really the only option that fits the description.

I’m not going there nor do I care to. It’s a hockey team, not a humanitarian aid society.

Players will become available this summer that weren't available at the deadline as teams shift gears. Those names won't surface in trade rumours until after the season is done.

For sure but it’s just tough to see who has a shut down RHD who can play in your second pairing and is willing to sell. I would definitely look at Tanev given everyone knows Calgary has to shed cap. Most of the bad teams don’t have a player like that. Come to think of it, want David Savard?

No, I'd want a defensemen who can actually shut it down, not one that used to be able to.

I don't even need them to get a shut down D, just someone who is good. A good puck mover who isn't a liability in their own end. They're better off investing in goaltending than trying too hard to find shut down guys. Just find players who can mesh well with what's already on the team.

Dahlin already plays on the right side so that's really not an issue. As for the fancy stats, I'm not sure we can rely completely on those. He's a minute-eating top four d-man who could probably hang with Dahlin on the top pair.

It's an interesting trade but his salary the next two seasons is $17M meaning one of those trade pieces needs to go. The pride/Christianity thing is somewhat bothersome to me but from a hockey standpoint, based upon my thoughts while minimally watching him, I don't think this trade is too far off.

Morals aren’t a reason to build a hockey team. No one ever won a cup with a team of saints. I don’t care what his views are and no one should. He’s a hockey player, nothing more.

Or they should be looking to address their actual major need which is LD to bridge them to Mateychuk and Svozil and the only reason they're discussing Hayes is because they might be able to get him cheap and not for the ridiculous price you've proposed here.

I think the key attraction to Hayes would be his acquisition price. That's one terrible contract and the return even with retention won't be good. Sure he's an OK 2/3C, but that contract is so incredibly bad it overshadows whatever trade value he might have had.

Yep, I think he's a totally fine addition to the Jackets with retention. I'm just saying trading Boqvist and 1sts for him shouldn't be on the table. If that's the price then they should just go at it again with Boone and Rosie as the top 6 centers as much as it would suck.

He's a 30y, 2/3C at best with a career high 49 points signed to 3x7.2... They are not getting a quality young player like Boqvist in that deal. He's pretty much a salary cap dump trade at this point, they'll have to either pay to move him or take back assets they might not need or want.
