Carter Sucks

Created by: HamSauce34
Team: 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 15, 2023
Published: Mar. 15, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Seems Jeff Carter has found out that he lost "it" after last night's -4 on 8min. He will retire and since the 35+ contract is not front loaded, it will not count against the cap.

I went through this already. It is front-loaded. $3.25 the first year and $3 the final year.

Value is too low and Habs have ZERO need for a LHD and a backup goalie.

Overall I really like this team. Especially this forward core. However, I don't think MTL does that trade, even though I really like Anderson. Only change I'd make is I'd try and trade away Petry. I think our D desperately needs to get younger/more mobile, and that 6 mil against the cap is just way too much. If we trade him could maybe sign Orlov or someone like that.

I don't think Carter contract counts per DK Sports, unless he has a signing bonus in year 2.

An example of a 35+ contract that had no cap hit penalty is the two-year deal Corey Crawford signed with the Devils. He signed it in October 2020, then retired three months later. Because the contract had no signing bonuses after the first year (it didn't have signing bonuses at all) and wasn't front-loaded in terms of base salary, the Devils didn't face any cap penalty when he retired. Crawford's deal came completely off the books:

Carter's cap hit stays for sure. Also, Pens should go nowhere near that MTL trade. POJ has been great and is cheap - Anderson has a terrible contract. It's the exact thing we tried to get away from at this year's deadline

Montreal heavily values Anderson and they already declined plenty of offers I’m sure. This wouldn’t be anywhere close for Montreal to let go of him.

And the Pens have ZERO need for another overpaid terrible contract in Anderson. Pens should stay far away even for free.
