Next year - bulding blocks

Created by: MTLaveragefan

Description
I am sad to say that If we can't get Bedard or Michkov... Habs will probably pull an Yzerman and draft Reinbacher the young RD ranked in the teens... but predicted to go in the top 10 by some.

Next year will be weird - preventing injuries and consistency will be key to have success. If they can have both... they might make the playoff or finish 12th overall...

But, the future is great:

Hutson is manifesting his inner Adam Fox, grew 2 inches and is playing great.
Slaf, Farrell, Heineman, Roy, Beck, and Mesar keep developping.
a couple big contracts are coming off the book.
Plenty of cap space to exploit

Next season will be an audition for the youth -if they can force KH's hand... he will move other vets.

Edmundson, Anderson and Dvorak will be moved during the summer or at the TD.

I expect KH will try to acquire an extra 1st rounder during the draft with one of those player or with suprising guys like Xhekaj and Harris

Why I kept seeing people giving more than a 1 year deal to Gurianov ?
Haven’t we learned yet with Jordan Weal & Rem Pitlick ?
Small sample size isn’t worth giving a player 2 years !
Hoffman is probably unmovable & the players like Chris Wideman, why would the GM trade him ? Kill team chemistry ? Right now this doesn’t look realistic at all

Habs aren't drafting Reinbacher with the 4-5-6th overall pick. If Hughes really wants him that badly over Benson/Smith etc, he'll trade down which Im not advocating at all but would be more worth while than simply reaching for Reinbacher.

You might have to pay for someone to take Hoffman.

Hoff (50%) & Wide might bring us a '26 3rd max, which I'd be ecstatic about.

If MTL's first pick is in the 8-12 range we might draft Rein but we're not taking him any higher than that. Too many talented players to be reaching that early imo.

Gurianov gets 1yr max if he's lucky.

The minimum that Gurianov will make is $2.9M if the HABS sign him (that is the qualifying offer requirement for his rights). It could be a 1 year deal and also a Two Way offer if Gurianov agrees. He has not played the minimum amount of games to make it a one way offer only.

I also believe that the offensive talent in the top 5 is too good to miss out on... however, Grant McCann is at it again, and I tend to give him the benefit of the doubt after he got it right last year and a couple years in a row.

sure, a 3rd or fourth round pick - go ahead... he is taking the roster spot of a more deserving kid.

2y at 2M - habs can afford it - he is still very young and has got the size AND speed combo we are looking for - hell even for a 3rd or 4th line - I rather have him than Hoffman in the line-up.

more years reduces the AAV - and gives-up a nicer timeline to revaluate.

Wideman will be traded in the summer to any team looking for a 7th defender- he's making league minimum - he could even be sent down to Laval as a waiver.

Just give Gurianov is QO, we have space. 1 year MAXIMUM

Wideman is very well liked from the players, so I highly doubt he gets move or being sent down. It’s possible, I just personally don’t see it

Heiskanen before Patrick - he's got a couple right call.

Eh I think for every "right call" he's got a couple bad ones he conveniently doesn't bring up. There is a reason he is no longer an NHL scout.

Drafting Reinbacher would be some galaxy brain nonsense. I doubt Hughes pulls an ACGM move where they are doing things to do things like trading Hutson or Xhekaj for scraps/pieces they dont need.

There are much better defenseman with higher ceiling in 2024 draft. This is not the year to reach on a defenseman with the caliber of forwards available

Grant McCagg also said Dylan Strome would be a better player than Mcdavid. He says a lot of things. Even a blind squirrel can find an acorn.

You can`t offer him $2M it needs to be $2.9M (his next contract is a qualifying offer because he is an RFA)

You can offer something else and a player can accept a different offer - basically, the QO is to retain the rights. Pretty sure Gurianov want to ensure an extra year of play.
