I will only comment on the Edmonton trade.

Brodie has been AMAZING for the Leafs. I would much rather keep him than get the picks. He would be a perfect add for Edmonton though but they have no cap space, so they would need to make a lot of other moves to make this work. Leafs pass, Edmonton asks the Leafs to take cap back.

Kings and Doughtey get the #1LD they have been DYING for YEARS to get. and Rielly is in his prime. PLUS a 1st round pick.

A pair of youngsters and a solid defensive RD seems like a VERY reasonable price to pay to me.

Of course it does. You're a Leafs fan. The NHL is not your farm team.

Take out Byfield and LA still says no.

"A pair of youngsters"??? You mean our future #1C and #1RW? You think that they're the equivalent of Nick Abruzzese and Fraser Minten?!?!?

Nylander is a luxury at this point in the Leaf's attempts to win a cup. He will be looking for $10m per year or more on his next deal - Leafs would be better off having Josi, a perennial all-star D man at $9m than a luxury $10m+ winger. Signing older UFAs like Kane/Tarasenko/Bertuzzi for $6m or less short term to replace Nylander is much more palatable for the Leaf's cap, and having that veteran leadership can certainly be a good mix with the young players like Knies/Minten/Voit and/or Byfield/Vilardi if acquired.

First, literally ZERO chance Leafs move Nylander. Second - no team is going to give up a top 5 league wide dman in his prime for Willy one year from FA. Come on, SMH.
And can’t see the Kings moving their future #1centre; like seriously?!
And then to put a cherry on this pile - you traded Brodie for picks.
Outrageous

Byfield isn't even a point a game AHLer! And HE is the Kings' future #1C? YIKES!

Vilardi had a break out first half of the year this year - let's not get all goo-goo-ga-ga over him YET! 7pts in 25 games last year at the NHL level. Not exactly FIRE! But at least he was a point a game in "the A" last year. 41 in 61 this year is certainly a step in the right direction - but keep in mind... Rielly is having an "off" year and he has 36pts in 55 games!

Besides - LA still have guys like Fiala and Kempe for the "now" and Kaliyev, Kupari, Turcotte and Andersson for the "future". Losing Vilardi and Byfield to get a #1 LD to lighten the load off of Doughtey is huge and landing a #1 pick as well is a wonderful kicker!

Moving a Norris caliber defenseman is probably one of the worst moves we make right now. He's our captain, and he has a NMC. If Josi is moved, we want prospects.

We are loaded on forward prospects, especially ones who are right handed. Nylander isn't a need no matter what kind of package he's waved around in.

Byfield in his last 27 games:

3 goals
14 assists, 17 points
16 EV points
9 prim assists
54% xGF% 5v5

You are very misguided. It's looking like his development is paying off.

I kinda remember Nylander's LAST contract negotiations being . . . protracted, to put it kindly. So I doubt that any real GM is going to be eager to pay a lot for the last year of Nylander's contract.

I think you misunderstood with what the Kings have been looking for. The Kings were looking for Chychrun to pair with Matt Roy, Anderson and Doughty are fantastic together, Doughty's metrics plummet without Anderson. So any trade for an LD would have to not include Anderson or Roy. Add to this Byfield is no longer a prospect and really finding his game on the top line as Kopitar and Kempe's numbers reflect. Finally barring injury Vilardi was on track for a 30 goal season. This team makes the Kings more offensively weak and defensively vulnerable as a much worse second pair.

There is zero cap space to facilitate this move with Vilardi needing to be signed.
