They Get Bedard

Created by: Nino2003
Team: 2023-24 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 23, 2023
Published: Mar. 23, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is a disaster. No idea what they are gonna do to make a real forward jump with this team. Feel like the moves I made probably move them forward a bit, but not by much.

I am not a habs fan. So all you habs fans ready to take my head off, relax. I am not a GM, and am making moves I think would be fun to see.
* switch the trade desc details for the Canucks trade *
* this also assumes they don't use the IR like a vacation for half the team *

Stetcher gives them another option on that right side going into next season. He's a very underrated player and would most likely shine given the proper opportunity in MTL.

I was debating moving Allen, but it felt unnecessary. Not like they need the cap space right now. If Prime takes a big jump, and they decide to run with him and Mont than I feel like an Allen trade would happen early into next season or later this upcoming summer.

I pray for forgiveness from Habs fans, as I most likely got all of your panties riding up your ***

Trades
1.
MTL
  1. 2023 3rd round pick (TOR)
  2. 2023 4th round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
Feels like a bit of an odd move, but if the Canucks move OEL, Edmunson could slide in as a one year plug while they search for a long term solution. At a cap hit of just $1 mil for the Canucks, he could even just fill a slot for the first couple months of the season before Elias Petterson (funny) or Joni Jurmo potentially step into that role
VAN
  1. Edmundson, Joel
Additional Details:
($1,500,000 retained)
Guy might be the most overrated player in terms of predicted trade value right now. There's a reason he wasn't moved at the deadline. Has move this contract and get back a much more reasonable return than that which was reported in the past couple months
2.
MTL
  1. 2023 4th round pick (ANA)
Additional Details:
Habs get rid of Hoffman. No point in keeping him just to have him sit in the bottom 6, may as well get rid of him without having to retain and just give another guy a shot in the bottom 6.
ANA
  1. Hoffman, Mike
Additional Details:
Ducks get an ok middle 6 guy to help with depth. Its a not so nice cap hit to take, but they got room for it, and are able to get Hoffman at a discounted price by not having MTL retain
3.
MTL
I know Habs aren't exactly in a spot to be packaging picks with bad contracts, but Jesus I don't know what else to do with this guy. His play at this cap hit is borderline unmovable. Luckily, we have to coyotes.
    ARI
    1. Armia, Joel
    2. 2024 7th round pick (EDM)
    Additional Details:
Coyotes eat this disaster deal for a seventh

If the Canucks want to somewhat compete and need a LD I think they take it

Hoffman is a cap dump and armia costs more than a 7th to dump

Taking Hoffman full freight for FC is already a discount, and our middle 6 is full anyway. Plus we do not want a guy like him in our locker room stirring up crap.

I’m sure Arizona would love to eat $7.8m in cash for a 7th

First, a rebuilding team does not want a bad bottom 6 winger and they certainly aren’t giving up a draft pick for him. Second, Arizona would demand a 3rd and 4th for that.

Preach, we’d need a big payment to take him to then just buy him out

No one is taking OEL. Best we can do is buy him out.

Plus if we are going to add to our left side I'd rather spend a bit more and get Graves or Gavi.

You must be joking. Tell me you're joking that you think OEL and Brisebois are legit guys to have on your second and third pairing.
