Leddy’s advanced stats are actually not bad at all. He is playing up to his contract at the moment. He also has 8.8 GAR which is not bad whatsoever.

First, a rebuilding team does not want a bad bottom 6 winger and they certainly aren’t giving up a draft pick for him. Second, Arizona would demand a 3rd and 4th for that.

And if Crosby was declining yes you’d be right not to cater to him. Crosby is one of the best players in the league and while I wish we would have signed Trochek instead of Geno, what team doesn’t want their best player to be happy? The only player who was traded who was still playing at a high level out of the group you named is Kane. The rest have regressed.</div></div>
You’re still not grasping the fact that the Penguins are nowhere near a cup and need to rebuild. They shouldn’t give a **** what Crosby wants. Hes not winning a cup In Pittsburgh again.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>edeangel84</b></div><div>Well we don’t need to trade the second best player in franchise history unless he demands a trade. I didn’t even want to resign Malkin but Sid wanted him back so here he is. Tanger has trailed off some this year but he has stilled played some very good hockey. If we traded either of them then we are basically telling Sid to leave. We can rebuild the team without grading those 3.</div></div>
You really can’t. Those 3 could get you legitimate value and they’re wasting time on your roster. No one should care if Sid was the 2nd best player on the team ever, because now the team needs to move forward. The fact the Pens actually resigned Malkin to cater to what Crosby wants just shows they have no interest in actually wining, but rather keeping “the ole boys club around”. Hawks traded Kane, Blues traded O’Reilly and Tarasenko, Kings traded everyone they could (Doughty is unmoveable and Kopitar was much younger when their rebuild started), the Lightning will probably trade a ton of their roster once their time as come….only dumb teams keep trying to stay competitive when there’s no chance for a cup. The Pens are gunna be the new Red Wings, and you won’t have a half decent GM to guide your rebuild.

This is kinda my point….you need to trade all of them. You’re not winning a cup with them.

If they were contenders or even pretenders they would go up against the top Gs in the league and fall short. Looking up simple stats is easy and understandable for a simple fan to do. There’s far more depth that goes into it. Most teams take those nights off and play down to that level which gives ARZ a handicap that if they were a playoff team they would not get. ARZ is much further than you think. But you’re welcome to believe that they are basically a playoff team and Crosby makes them contenders.</div></div>
I mean that’s not in the slightest what I said. But I’ll just put you down like this: The last time a contending team started their backup against AZ was Jonathan Quick of the Kings on February 18th. Since then, they have faced Saros mutiple times, Ottinger, etc.

Also the title is not called "what they need to do" did you forget your own title? You called it "reality for the pens". I do agree that Penguins should start a rebuild now but that Arizona move especially would be really stupid for Arizona.</div></div>
They’d be a playoff contender after this trade, and a cup contender after making other good trades and signings. They also would heavily consider how much money they’d make off of it

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lancebmx</b></div><div>K well they aren't trading Sid, Malkin and Letang.
If they for some reason convinced those guys to let them be traded Arizona is not buying and not for that price. They wouldn't approve of a trade to a rebuilding team or else why not just stick with Pittsburgh? Colorado I could see being interested in Crosby but I doubt they give up what he would be worth if he didn't have a NMC.
As for the trades themselves obviously Arizona doesn't even consider.
Edmonton trade maybe. Ceci is actually a good player he's just playing well above his pay grade in Edmonton which is why people think he's a dump.
Obviously Seattle didn't do that, that first is more valuable to them than Geno would be.
Rangers don't even hesitate to when they say no. Miller is likely untouchable and they will make it work somehow.
LA might do that if they want to shed Peterson's contract.
Ottawa is likely the wrong team and I doubt you get that much for Rakell.</div></div>
First, this is called “what they need to do” because they’re too dumb to actually face reality. In reality, the Coyotes and Kraken are both closer to a cup than Pittsburgh. The only reason they refuse to waive is if they’re content without having a chance for a cup ever again. The Coyotes rebuild is nearing its end and guys like Crosby and Letang would just speed up the process. Regardless, you show your knowledge by thinking AZ is a dumpster fire when they are actually looking good.

But this needs to look like a NY Mets off-season.</div></div>
Arizona is currently nearly a .500 team without Crosby or Letang. Keller is one of the best wingers in the NHL and Schmaltz will be a good 2C. Arizona is currently closer to a cup than Pittsburgh and to deny that would be to deny reality. Just bc you don’t know anything about the Coyotes doesn’t mean they’re in a bad position. Also, Chychrun costs more than Letang ($4.6 mil vs $3 mil) and he is gunna need a new big contract in a few years. AZ is unlikely to get Bedard too, and will probably pursue Matthews in 2024. Adding Crosby and Letang would make the team immediately better and put people in seats, which is something they need for their Tempe move.

Question for Blues Fans
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>Ehhhhh... where did that 2nd come from? That was never in the proposed trade idea, <em>buddy</em>.
And you absolutely did say "in exchange for a 30th overall pick that will probably never play a game for the Blues" verbatim. I know, coz I just copy pasted it directly from your comment. And you sure as hell implied strongly that Kupari was about to be the next Thompson level breakout. Yup. So again, you cannot suddenly sneak in extra picks and act like I responded to it, and you can't lecture someone about "reality" when you pretend you didn;t say things you totally did say and we can all see it because it's still there.z
Long story short: the Blues will not be trading a 23 1st for Kupari, and neither will anyone else.</div></div>
Ohh boyyy. So if you use your eye balls and look at the trade, the Kings send their 2nd Round pick for this season. All I was saying was that if they send Kupari instead of a 2024 1st, the Blues may bite because Kupari is a prime candidate for a insane breakout. Kupari is already good defensively and could definitely have a 40 to 50 point season if he’s given real ice time with actually skilled players. All I said was that Thompson had a career high of 14 points when he was 23. If you want an example that I could see in Kupari, a guy like Eeli Tolvanen has had an amazing breakout since leaving Nashville. He’s on a 30 goal 63 point pace with Seattle since he got there after never posting higher than 11 goals and 23 points. And my point stands, whoever the Blues would draft at 30th will probably never play for us. Finally, this draft is not deeper across the board, you realize that, right? The top 10 to 15 are all really good and the rest are pretty average for any draft. The last draft that was of this level (2015) saw Nick Merkley go 30th overall, and he’s in the KHL now after playing exactly 1 game for the Coyotes.

That’s not in the slightest what I said. I want you to realize that players who play less than 10 minutes per game don’t have a true chance to prove themselves. Thompson is just an example, I think Kupari has potential to be a 20 goal 50 point guy who provides solid defense. Armstrong wants to retool, not rebuild, so the odds are that whoever is drafted will get traded and never play for us. Kupari could slot in the bottom 6 now and get much more time than he does in LA. And the “lower” of our draft picks this season will be somewhere between 28 and 32 most likely. We are gunna pick around 9, 23, and 30.
With all this being said, I don’t like the move for Kupari because it’s not in a vaccum. The reality is that we are gunna draft a center at 9 (or higher if we wanna trade up) and we have been experimenting with Buch at center. But in a different situation, Kupari and a 2nd would be decent value for a 28th to 32nd overall pick. That’s just reality buddy.

So Tarasenko is on pace for 22 goals and 38 assists across 82 games and is one year removed from a 34 goal 48 assist season in 75 games and you think he’s gunna settle for $3 million per year? He’s going for $5 million absolute minimum, but will probably seek $6.5 to $7 million. But that’s not all, you ALSO think a 23 year old Filip Chytil who’s on pace for 26 goals and 25 assists is going to take an 8 x $4.750 mil? If he’s signing a long term deal, he’s gunna demand around $6 million if your lucky, but considering you gave Kreider $6.5 million, he’lol prolly want more than that. Regardless, he’s not gunna sign a deal past his RFA status. Keep dreaming tho.
Just think…..you think a guy who has scored 124 points in the last two seasons is only with 3x more than a guy who has scored 13.

As for guarantees, nobody asked for one, but betting on a 18 yo who is more talented than a 23 yo disappointment seems fine by me. Of course, I do not expect Army to just draft with the picks he has anyway. But no, <em>nobody</em> is going to pay a 23 1st for Kupari.</div></div>
Just so you’re aware, at 23, the most points Tage Thompson had in a season was 14. Beyond that…..Kupari has been getting literally less than 10 minutes per game. No, they absolutely would not.</div></div>
Of all people, you are not someone who has a worthy opinion of anything regarding hockey. The Blues need center depth and need younger players. Kupari projects to be a 2nd line center at best and could immediately be in our bottom 6. The lower 1st will likely be 28th to 32nd and getting an actual player for it is more valuable than an 18 year old who is not guaranteed. It also makes sense if the Blues are looking to retool as opposed to rebuild. A 30th overall pick does nothing for at least 2 or 3 years and may never do anything.
