that Laffy trade is interesting. Based on how Florida and the Flames are playing, you really don't know where those firsts are gonna be. Plus you're not sure how Laffy's gonna develop over the coming years. Interesting AGM

I like the way laf is playing. Numbers are still underwhelming, but if the rangers can't develop a player like Laf who was a consensus first overall pick then what do you think they will do with two mid to late first rounders. Also the flames pick is a sophomore in highschool right now so hes not going to be ready for a while

The Ducks would need something to take on Goodrow's contract and Montreal is not going to pay two 1sts for Lafreniere.

Goodrow's M NTC makes him a virtually impossible trade. You've asked way too much for LAF, where a 4.3m offer sheet costs a team a second rounder.
Rangers are going to have to forget about UFA signings, except for maybe a goalie, and hope they cap for their RFAs.

I could see two firsts if they were both 28+ OA picks, but to get a top 15 + another first is excessive for a guy who has been massively underwhelming so far. Should send Laf to Dallas, they know how to work on a guys skating down there (Robertson's biggest issue was he was a **** skater)

Habs easily decline.

At this point the florida pick is a mid teens pick and that player has a pretty solid chance of being a better player than laf. From his own draft lundell jarvis guhle mercer schneider were all picked 12-19 and laf isnt materially better than any of them (and worse than a few)

Its also important to remember depending on how things play out that calgary pick could only be 1st overall protected. If florida finished bottom 11 in either of the next 2 seasons calgary doesnt get the fla 2025 pick and the habs get calgarys 2025 1st with only top 1 protection. It could theoretically be a 2nd overall pick. They arent trading that right now.

Lafreniere plus line is going to break out large this post season, it’s not going to be a rangers option to move on from any of the kid line, basically the most or second most important line going forward for them.

I'm not even sure its way too much. I highly doubt think he'd return 2 1sts and a 3rd, but he's worth the Florida pick + for sure. And like the Dach trade, its also the kind of move that current Canadiens organization would make. But Rangers fans know how Gorton operates, he'll pay for young talent he believes in, but he's not going to overpay.

and gotta think if gorton drafted him (although he was the consensus #1 pick) he must have liked him.

Sure. But there's a difference between "like him enough to pay more than he did for Dach", and "like him enough to pay two 1sts and a 3rd". Especially since Montreal is mid-rebuild and developing their own 1st OA pick.
