Hayton gotta be the target imo.
Not too familiar with his game.
Not sure Hayton would be the guy the Yotes would move on from due to age and how cheap he is compared to Schmaltz.

No chance Schmid gets that contract and term unless he takes the starters role from VV and plays like a top 15 goalie.
It's just the assumption I defaulted to for the purposes of this AGM, wanted to use all that cap space on something.
Schmid still has a lot to prove at the NHL level but what he has shown so far is very promising so him becoming a top 20 goalie over the course of the next season is not too outlandish of an idea to entertain.

Im curious as to why you want Sevo over Marino. I'd rather keep Marino over Severson, he's younger and better defensively. Plus his cap hit is lower.
I think Severson is slightly better overall than Marino (their defence is pretty much equal).
If Severson is willing to go lower on AAV for max term the Devils would be better off leaning into that as you would then trade Marino out for additional assets when Nemec steps into the lineup for the 24/25 season.
Leaves the Devils a lot better off long-term despite Severson being older than Marino.
Besides, it's not like you can't trade Severson out down the line if Seamus Casey develops as you'd expect him to.

Mercer 7 x $6,250,000
Severson 7 x $4,500,000
Would be great deals for Fitzy. I am expecting their next contracts to be more like
Mercer 2 x $5m or 8 x $7.5m
Severson 7 x $6m
Also, is center Schmaltz’s best position? Could also see him swap spots with Mercer (2RW)
This AGM is following up on this one: https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/697049
Therefore Severson's contract is shortened by one year, the idea is for Severson to sign max term to relent on AAV.
I wouldn't want to bridge Mercer, would rather do max term when given the choice.
With the forwards at hand in this AGM I think Schmaltz would be the best option as 3C.
I could see the argument for putting Mercer there but since he's working so well on Hischier's wing keeping him there feels like the safer option.

You want to trade a 1B goaltender, a mid-6 scoring winger, 2 top prospects, a first and a third for a PPG guy who has never played a full season? And then slide him on the 3rd line where his production will take a massive hit simply because of limited time and quality of linemates?
And then sign Severson until he's 35?
This is bad, so bad
I get the feeling you're overrating the pieces the Devils are giving up here, and severely underrating how amazing of a player Schmaltz is.
Check again what the suggested top 9 looks like. There are high-end players all over it, Schmaltz playing with Palat an Gritsyuk won't be that much of a step down from playing with his current linemates in Arizona.
You're right in that he wouldn't play as much in New Jersey than in Arizona but that's more to the effect of moving from one of the weakest teams in the league to one of the deepest, there are more good lines to roll in New Jersey than in Arizona...
I don't see the big deal if his average ice time were to drop between 1-2 minutes compared to his current 19.2 minutes per game.
Whatever production he loses out on from that should be entirely offset by playing on a better team with more opportunities to match up against weaker opposition than in Arizona.
This is such a non issue.
You do realize the 19/20 and 20/21 seasons were shortened due to a global pandemic?
Schmaltz played every single for the Yotes in those two seasons.
Weird thing to hang up on.
As for what the Devils are giving up:
Blackwood is not a 1B goalie, not at this point in time.
He's a backup due a 3.36m QO which the Devils are unlikely to give to him, for the purposes of this trade he's a nothing-asset.
Sharangovich is middle 6 scoring winger in normal circumstances but at the moment he's not scoring that much, is he?
I like Yegor a lot but there's hardly any space for him in on this roster, Bastian and Boqvist are both better players than Yegor at this point in time and I expect that to be the case going forward.
Besides, you got give up some valuable pieces for a guy like Schmaltz, including Sharangovich here makes a ton of sense.
Thompson isn't a top prospect, and there's no space for him on this roster, he'd either be in Utica or get claimed on waivers when the Devils are trying to make space for better players on this roster.
Walsh isn't a top prospect either (though he's quite a good one), but the Devils can comfortably do without him in the 23/24 season if they run a RHD corps of Hamilton, Severson and Marino.
Walsh also loses his waiver exemption for next season so it'd be good to package him in a trade for a high-end forward (again, you gotta give up some valuable pieces for a guy like Schmaltz).
FWIW I wouldn't have any issue with the Devils letting Severson go and play Walsh as 3RHD for next season, but for the purposes of this AGM that's not really what I'm going for.
As for resigning Severson to an 8 year deal, feel free to read my responses to commenters above.
