ehh idk. when Boston was trying to jump up one spot to get Backstrom instead of Kessel i believe they only offered a 3rd. Now if it was from 4oa to 1oa i think that cost would be insane

I really think of the Canes trade draft capital it will be for a goal scorer more than a playmaker. Right now I don’t have a ton of confidence in a guy like Kuzy fitting in on the Canes.

What they really need is someone who can score 30 goals…that ain’t Kuzy. He’d be a good fit, no question…but I really don’t think he’d be a crucial targeted player for them. That means they’d want him cheap (less draft capital)

if caps win they at 6, one of benson, smith or michkov (if he falls) would be available, benson and smith are just a tad below Carlsson.

The fact you mentioned Semin sent shivers down all Canes fans spines.

He and Kuzy might be the same person... top 10 talent players that play to the best of their abilities 20% of the time. At least Kuzy won us a cup. Capitals should have 1 more cup if Semin ever tried

difference b/t Fantilli and Carlsson is huge imo. they would be better off with Fantilli who could play next year and just buying out Mantha. If I was any team moving back from 2 to 4 I would want another pick in the 10-16 range or an actual impact roster player.

interesting. IMO Carlsson is very very underrated similar to how Staal got picked over Backstrom in his draft

don't get me wrong I think Carlsson is also a great player who would've gone 1oa each of the past 3 years but I don't think he's ready to have the instant impact that Bedard or Fantilli do. That makes a big difference for any team but especially a caps one that wants to compete next year

It would cost WAAYYY more than that to get the 2nd overall. Especially with a Mantha cap dump involved.

Reading is hard. Capitals are trading the 2oa and moving back to the 4oa.

That concept didn't even compute with me since up until a few weeks ago it wasn't even conceivable for the Caps to get the 2nd overall pick. I thought they were saying the other way around and just worded it weirdly. haha
