I know that the schmidt contract isn't the greatest and this offer is quite good but ultimately schmidt has been quite valuable as a role player and locker guy. He has allowed Samberg to develop nicely and been always smiling. Those 3rds if perfer to keep with the direction of the team up in the air as well. Just something that makes sense value wide but not in terms of team chemistry and value that schmidt brings beyond on the ice.

Seems pretty bad for buffalo. Schmidt isn't better than jokiharju, but his contract is awful with term

We can get much better options for 3LHD, Ryan Johnson is perfect for that spot if we can sign him.

Never said they were I was more point out that schmidt has been an important piece to the jets in developing Samberg and beyond on ice play. Also he has trade protection so I doubt he's going anywhere

Schmidt will be a key piece going forward when they trade a ton of guys and need someone to show the new young guys how to be a pro and enjoy everyday at the rink.
