Competitive till the end

Created by: PenaFanatic
Team: 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 13, 2023
Published: Apr. 13, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Clean entire front office out.
Sullivan Reirden Fired.
Vellucci gets a look at HC? Or hire a younger coach with new ideas and strategies. Like Malkin said the league is changing and we need new ideas to fit our schemes. Our PP and PK suck. Our breakouts are horrible. Transition game trash.
Analysis of team created- 4th line probably has tough production but you fix the third line and hope to gain more points from the 3rd line. 4th line ideas was a "kid" line. Nylander has shown creativity, DOC has shown flashes and plays hard. Poehling is fast and skilled also very young. I think you get good forecheckers on the 4th with speed.
Flaws- Probably too small still but maybe it be up to new Front Office at the TD to gain some size this is just an idea.
Draft- I think you take the best offensive prospect on the board...
I do not think highly of our AHL prospects and I don't think any of them are ready....
Prospects to watch- LUKAS SVEJKOVSKY OWEN PICKERING ISAAC BELLIVEAU
I am really over Poulin. Legare, Hallender Puustinen... in my opinion.
Now are we in cap hell? Yes. Would you expect anything less from the Pens? No.
Jeff Carter- Buyout. Dont think he retires and if you cant trade him... buy him out.
Granlund- This one is tough... 0 trade value but maybe the system doesn't fit him.... I think you keep him and see what he is like with a new HC. Maybe he produces as a third line guy. If not then you look to ship at deadline if not exceeding expectations. He could be good for 40-50 points I think.
Zucker- Takes less then making now to come back to Pitt. Played well this year. Best year with Pitt. But 48 points on second line with Geno and Rakell/Rust at times still isn't great production... At a bit of an aging age he sticks it short term with Pitt. Depending on Pitt success maybe becomes trade bait with an afforable contract and term.
Jarry- This one is hard... but FA goalies aren't great... you could trade for a goalie (Jaros or Gibson) but the value for them will be so high that I think trading for a goalie is more risky then just resigning Jarry. Jarry at times looks great other times is horrible.. but when you look at how bad our PK is and how bad turnovers in our own zone are and odd man rushes we give up we don't do a lot to help. Short term reasonable contract and if he can't bounce back his market for trade is there.
Ty Smith- You traded for him.. hes young... I think you give him a fair shot and I think he isn't a bad defencemen this year wasn't great when he was in the NHL but neither was our entire D core and he played in games with significant Penguins out of lineup. Slot him with experienced D man if he has to drop to 3rd with Rutta I am fine with that too.

Trades
1.
PIT
  1. 2025 5th round pick (COL)
COL
  1. Ruhwedel, Chad
Additional Details:
I here a lot that Ruhwedel is done in Pitt. Grab a whatever pick for depth D man. Colorado just another body D man cheap and serviceable when needed.
2.
PIT
  1. 2023 4th round pick (CBJ)
CBJ
  1. Petry, Jeff ($3,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Cap dump. I think that Petry probably wants to win so it may not be Columbus but close to home and family for him. Plus if CBJ are trash which they probably will be Petry becomes a Trade Deadline watch. You retain salary on him but this I think would be a similar trade to anyone willing to take him. Thoughts on other teams?
3.
PIT
  1. 2024 4th round pick (DET)
DET
  1. DeSmith, Casey
Additional Details:
Trade Desmith here I know that Detroit has Cossa but give him more time to develop and trade for a back up that isn't outstanding but can be solid in stretches and has experience. Good contract too.

Jackets already have a ton of RD. They won’t have any interest in petry. Could be interested in Petterson if he’s available

I agree with some of what you're saying here. Couple nitpicks. Jarry isn't taking a paycut. If we have to retain half on Petry I don't think it's worth it, plus he has those pesky clauses and will probably block a trade there anyway.

And just as an OCD thing please switch Rutta and POJ lol

Hell no, Why would Detroit want Casey DeSmith? The same guy we've already lit up for 11 goals this season. You'd be lucky to get a conditional 7th round pick for him.

I agree with everything you said about us needing a complete management and coaching change. But I dont think this team would be competitive. It needs a massive overhaul to get younger. The easiest and most successful way to do this is to rebuild.

Those trades are very unlikely, we can't afford to re-sign Jarry, and by that I mean that he's a liability. Overpayment of the century with that DET deal, they'd decline, Barbs is overpriced, Oskar is washed, this team needs youth. You'd be hard pressed to get anyone to take Chad, even if you got on your knees (not just to pray). He's worth maybe a 7th, even then you're pressing it.

if you're giving us Petry you give us the 4th

don't want him to begin with this trade would've worked this year, not next

Don't see why Petry is a cap dump.... The guy, in 60 games this and last yr went from ~120 giveaways to ~30. and takeaways went up by ~ 10 this yr. Point production got better and is a PP & PK player.

I'd rather try to sign Varly or Hill in UFA. Or see if Vladar is available.
