Devils can't decline fast enough. We're grateful for what Hall did for us, and we wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole.

That's a lot for Ullmark. Two young starting D men with upside and a mid first seems like a lot. I could be wrong but I don't think he'll get that.

No to Pens trade simply because I have zero interest in POJ and Smith. Saw enough bad defenseman the prior years.

1st and Pickering…i’m in.

Grizz for Roslovic is fair. Asking for the rest is laughable. But Roslovic is a headache, let him be someone else’s problem.

Pens pass. Zboril is a bust and Ullmark isn’t worth that. Drop all the dmen from the deal and pens accept.

Tell us how you really feel.
POJ is a 23 year old defenseman with solid numbers (regular and analytics). Not always the best decision making but 23 with upside.
Smith is a 23 year old defenseman with good numbers in the NHL (with limited sample size) and good AHL numbers. Not much experience but 23 with upside.

I don't want to know what you think of actually bad defenseman like Rutta or Forbort...

Forbort is worlds better than both those guys. He’s actually good at something. He serves a purpose on the best blue line the NHL has seen in the last decade.

I added him in knowing you were probably a Boston guy. Here are some of his stats with where he ranks against defenseman with 500+ min. Ranks in ():

5 goals scored which is 3 above expected goals
Corsi of 39% (193rd)
Shot Attempts 103, Shots 38, Missed the net 32% of the time (missed shot % is 133rd)
On Ice Expected Goals 42%
Off Ice Expected Goals: 57%
Relative Expected Goals: -15% (204th)
On Ice Expected Goals Against per 60: 3.65 (174th)
On Ice Shot Attempts Against per 60: 68 (190th)
On Ice High-Danger Shot Attempts Against per 60: 4.07 (182nd)
Created Goals: 1.7 (197th)
Hits: 106 (77th)
Shots Blocked: 88 (129th)

In every single metric no only is Forbort the worst defenseman on Boston, he is one of the worst in the NHL. And, for context, all of those stats are significantly worse than POJ, who you said was terrible.

So, if he doesn't create goals or drive play or prevent goals, what is he good at?

He’s a shut down d man that’s one of the best penalty killers in the league…what are you talking about?

Stats CAN be useful, but if you have no idea who a player is, and think you’re going to get a good idea by reading a short spreadsheet, hockey is not the sport for you

Forbort appears to be a fairly competent penalty killer. So he got paid 3MM to be effective 23% of his ice time and be a massive drain on his team 77% of the time. What a deal!

To be a shut down defenseman, you need to shut down teams. He allows among the most shots, possession, and goals in the NHL. He is by no means a shut down anything.

Stats are useful WHEN you don't know who a player is. It allows you to objectively look at a player and see how they compare to their team and the league. If you think otherwise then YOU are missing the point of statistics.

Keep being a Boston homer.

You’re missing a wonderful game out there! Get your eyes off the stat sheet and maybe watch a game. It’s pretty fun.

Sometimes strong defensive d men (forbort is one of the best in the league. Ah yes, the Boston homerism. How crazy to think an important piece to the best regular season team in nhl history is good) allow a lot of outside shots. Hell, chara would be on the ice for a ton of shots against in his prime. Teams couldn’t get inside so they threw it on net.

If you rely 100% on stats, you’ll look as stupid as you do now. Don’t be that guy. Try to be better

I watch plenty of games. Pit, Van, Col, Car mostly but I try to see everyone play at least a few times a year. I noticed Forbort several times and never in a good way but my sample size was small. So I withheld judgement. Then I saw his stats.

That is true that sometimes players just throw the puck at the net because a good defensive defenseman is blocking their path. To account for that they have a statistic called high danger shots. As I stated before, Forbort is 182nd in high danger shots against. So he is not making guys throw the puck at the net. They are getting quality chances against him.

He is bad. Really bad. I'm sorry you can't see that. And, my man, it is not me looking stupid. I have evidence he is bad, you have "trust me, he's great". Not hard to see who looks like a fool. wink
