Description
I love debrincat but I just don't see how we possibly make it work, trade him And get as close to what you paid for him as possible then that gives you assets and 10mil in cap space to fill the 2 roster spots in question the 2 lw and starting goalie positions. The debrincat deal comes with an extension of course

The Bruins are absolutely not trading Swayman. If they did ever trade a goailie, it would be Ullmark, just from a cap saving as well as building for the future it makes more sense. They also have 3 good goalie prospects so I don't think that would interest them. It would have to a top 6 center prospect or a RD prospect.

Yeah I figured that... he is just the most attractive target in my opinion but I know he is likely not available. The purpose of my post is more to say they should trade the cat to have the space to get a more affordable 2lw and a starting goalie with the .oney and assets they get

I think if Boston trades Swayman they would want a very good, cheap, NHL ready or very close to it player as the primary piece as opposed to a 1st.

Zero interest in a goalie coming back.

There is a good chance that Boston will be forced to trade a G and Ullmark could make himself untraceable with his NTC, leaving them with no choice but to move Swayman.

Ottawa has many attractive pieces to make it work if it comes to that.

Its basically like they moved Hronek for Cat. I dotn think Ottawa wouldve ever considered Hronek for Cat

I think its a mix of Vancouver over paying for hronek, and ottawa having no choice but to move the cat that brings their values so close

Possibly close but cat should def bring more. Like an extra decent piece. Something like :

Wahlstrom/Dube/Bjorkstrand
14-18 overall in 2023

Would def be fair for both teams . And the other team could upgrade on their middle 6F for a middle of the pack 1st rounder

Certainly not a fan of paying what he got, but can't find an Ottawa fan whos not hard set on bare minimum equivalent return despite recessing and getting more expensive.

In the comments I mention it comes with an extension ...in that case would he not fetch more? Imo he would but to be fair I put it as equivalent as paid in this post

Many people disagree with you lol but you know better I guess... regardless of the assets recieved and sent out that part doesn't really matter its more the idea of trading cat and using that cap space and assets to fill the 2nd lw with a better fit and starting goaltending roles

what most people do not seem or want to understand, is that DET and OTT are both in the same division and both are competing for a playoff spot and cup, tho OTT is a little more ahead of DET, OTT will NEVER trade Cat to DET unless it is a massive overpay because they do not want to help DET with a 40 goal scorer that can hurt OTTs chances of beating DET in games or win games at all.

a G have a fraction of the value of other positions for the simple reason G are so unpredictable, they can be a vezina winner one year and be the worst G in the league the next, teams would/should not trade major assets for G for that reason, also Swayman is a back up which also lowers his value even more. Grubauer in his last years of WSH had similar numbers to Swayman and he only went for a 2nd (orpik was alos part of trade)

So with that logic boston is a divisional rival so we would need to very much overpay for a guy like swayman.... and as for cat well ottawa may not have many options... sens will have to let teams talk extension with him and only then will they get any value back . If cat says ill only sign long term in Detroit we will be lucky to recieve this
