Since Rust has a NMC, And hometown Detroit would be the most logical destination for him. I doubt we'd give up a 3rd much less a 2023 pick. Doubt you'd get more than a 2024 4th rounder for Rust.

Rust will be 31 years of age and his contract 5.125m contract goes of five full year. His productivity declined this year. Can't think of any team that would be interested.
Look at your post.....you signed better players at 5m and under. Wings will sign those UFAs instead of Rust.

I wouldn't take Rust personally, just too old with too much term for his cap hit. Lots of cap right now but in a few years after Seider and Raymond extensions kick in plus everyone else, we will be close to the cap and every little bit will help. As someone else posted already, why not just sign those free agents? Could offer Tarasenko more money for that term. Just don't see any way Rust gets moved but maybe someone takes a flyer on him if he approves the trade.

In reality Rust will be 31 in about 17 days, he has a NMC so he has a say wherever he goes. Very doubtful that teams will give up assets for a guy who is more than likely on the decline. You will need to give up picks and prospects to move him. This was a very bad signing by Hexy when the ink dried.

I like Rust but hate that contract.. I wouldn’t do this. Maybe if you took a cap dump as well?

He had a lot of those, Hexy that is. Rust is still a valuable player, in ways other than just the score sheet too, but yeah 5 × 5 and the NTC makes it hard to move him...
