After Meier, Bratt, potentially one of Severson or Graves, and filling out the lineup, I don't see how NJ would have anywhere near the cap to do this.
palhal liked this.

Blackwood is basically a dump who can't even stay healthy, Holtz numbers are pretty abysmal and a late 2024 1st for Cat. Detroit would beat that offer. Plus Bratt, DeBrincat and Meier won't come cheap. Plus it sounds like Fitzgerald would still love to bring Damon Severson back. So yeah good luck with that.

Why are the Devils the big team to focus on here when they were the third highest scoring team in the league this season? Devils should keep a young core to look to when the cap squeezes, not add more stars.

If the Devils reach the 2023 or 2024 ECF, your trade would be illegal.

The 1st round pick in the trade would belong to the San Jose Sharks.

Try again.

They could squeeze it. If Bratt takes 8 and Meier+Cat take 8.5 each, they could even afford to bring back Tatar. No need to waste cap on Severson or Graves when we have Hughes, Bahl, Nemec, and Walsh.

Just push it to 2025 if the condition is met. Maybe add a sweetener pick if the condition is triggered too

DeBrincat to NJD would be fun scenario...but highly unlikely.

We have other mouths to feed (Meier, Bratt, Mercer, etc)
And if Severson and Graves walk, we could have very different needs this summer.

Bahl being a shutdown guy has cured me of Graves fully as Luke is the 3LHD there. Going from Severson to Walsh or Nemec might be a short term step back but I am willing to take a step back to take a long term leap as they gain experience.

I hear ya…don’t want to make perfect the enemy of good. Serverson for 1-2 more years would be great, but going from Severson -> some band-aid rental -> Walsh/Nemec would work too if it allows us to address other needs.

And Bahl has been playing really well since they dealt Okhotiuk and Mukhamadullin. Funny how that works sometimes.

2023-24
Siegenthaler - Hamilton
Hughes - Marino
Bahl - Walsh
Smith

2024-25
Siegenthaler - Hamilton
Hughes - Marino
Bahl - Walsh/Nemec

This is exactly how I see it for 23-24, with the likelihood to go and get a RHD at the deadline to upgrade on Walsh. Probably another relatively quick shutdown guy as Luke and Hamilton will be our PP guys. A Marino-lite type.

If the fancy stat people are right, Walsh could be good. And right for our system.
