The salary cap is set at 78.85m because it accounts for the player bonuses, while I also added 1m for the expected jump in the cap. I tried to set my biases aside and make trades that are realistic and for team needs. lmk what you think.

Calgary can't afford that. They already are over the cap with a 19 man roster.

Lucic, Ritchie, Stetcher come off the books, I also doubt that the Flames don't make any other roster changes considering the season they had.

These are relatively fair deals across the board, my concern, if I'm Don Sweeney, is that everyone knows they have to dump assets to be able to do anything due to their cap situation. There are going to be a few "fleeces" in there similar to a Pacioretty for Future Considerations type deal. Each deal in a bubble seems okay value-wise, but wouldn't be surprised to see Forbort, Reilly, or Grzelcyk be in that type of deal.

Kings is the perfect destination for Ullmark if that's the route they decide to go.

Thanks for the feedback I appreciate it.
I agree with your line of thinking for sure, my thought process was just that a lot of teams are cap strapped pending ufa's want to get as much as they can so competitive teams will be willing to trade for depth players. Hence the Forbort and Grz trades. I do think it'll take assets to move Reilly regardless.

I think he does because it's 6 years opposed to 4 or 5 year deals other airmchair gm's have given him.

Huberdeau and Weegar extensions just slip your mind? That money coming off is already redistributed.

Thats including those 3 coming off the books. Make a 23-24 Flames AGM and look at the cap. They have -500k in space

If that's the going rate and term, he'd be coming back to Detroit. He might not have been traded in the 1st place. And, Detroit is on the ascension, Boston on the decline. Even if it isn't Detroit, he can do better elsewhere. Heck, Toronto could bring him on, trade Nylander, and save money while gaining assets.

I know they don't have space going in, or with this trade. I'm saying that they'll need to make multiple moves this offseason. You can be over the cap or way under during the offseason, just has to get figured out before the season starts.

For the sake of his career he should not go back to detroit. And for him doing better elsewhere you're wrong. the chemistry him and pasta have is elite. 10 points in 7 playoff games. How many playoff games did he play in detroit again?? oh that's right...

Grzelcyk would not be a top-4 dman in NJ. He would be a plug if Luke weren’t ready. But I think we are happy entering next year with Siegenthaler, Hughes and Bahl (or Graves) on the left side.

I'd be surprised if Graves resigns tbh. Grz can play both sides so he could potentially be a top 4 in Jersey. Also who says Hughes is going to be a top 4 d man next year? d men usually take a while to come around so we'll see.

I think Siegenthaler, Hamilton are locked in. They probability bring back one of Severson or Graves. Marino, Hughes, Bahl and Smith on roster, Reilly Walsh in waiting. So we have options. If Graves doesn’t return and Hughes isn’t ready….maybe…

Siegenthaler - Hamilton
Bahl - Severson
Grzelcyk - Marino

We will see once season is over.

Huberdeau, Weegar and Vladar extensions ate up all that and more. Also Ritchie and Stetcher didn't take much of the cap since they were deadline adds. The Flames page shows us with 1.25m in cap space next year on an 18-man roster, this doesn't include Pelletier or Duehr (combined 1,688,333) who were sent down for the playoffs.

I'm aware and I've looked at the flames page, I don't get why I have to keep repeating that the flames will have to make other trades if they want a different result than they had this year.

Those d pairs look solid but id say grz- marino would be the second pair no?

Depends on situation. Way it is now…. Graves/Marino, Sieg/Ham, Bahl/Sevo…each could get most minutes on any given night.

Fair point, as is they don't really have like a "2nd or 3rd" pair. Depending on who walks at free agency that could change.

All the signings are pretty good, Berts is accurate (even tho he wants more), Hathaway is prob unnecessary and could spend that money elsewhere, Mayfield prob gets more elsewhere but wouldnt be a bad add

Forbs and Reilly dumps are fine and necessary, Grz value is prob accurate but not to NJD w them having Siegenthaler/Hughes/Nemec

Trading a Goalie to LAK is a likely outcome, but Turcotte should def be in the return for BOS

Dont see CGY affording that, but Zadorov would be a nice D add

and this deal makes a bad situation twice as bad...

I'd also question why the Flames would even consider this move in a vacuum, Hall has had 1 healthy season in the past 5 years, and hasn't really done much since leaving NJ. While Zadorov has re-established himself as a top 4 option after arguably the best 2 seasons of his career.

I appreciate the feedback. My thinking with New Jersey is that next year adding Grz would allow one of Hughes or Nemec time to play top minutes in the AHL.

Really? I think it's pretty obvious, Huberdeau had the most disappointing season statistically in history with the slew of linemates hes had in Calgary. He had his most success alongside a speedy winger in Duclair, Hall is exactly that. Had 61 points in a 2nd and 3rd line roll with the B's. Putting him on L1 with Huberdeau would be an attempt to get your 10.5m "superstar" more than 50 points.

Hughes likely plays in NHL full time after his brief stint this szn

Could see that happening w Nemec

Then Siegenthaler is full time NHLer and i forgot Bahl but he would be an easy move for NJD

There is a reason Sutter as fired, one of those reasons was his misuse of Huberdeau, who spent a large portion of the season with Lucic on his line.

And Hall used to be that, he's not any more, if he was still that you wouldn't be trying to dump him.
