Tons of room

Created by: LeafsTorontoFan
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: May 2, 2023
Published: May 2, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Allows the leafs to load up for 1 last year with the core 4.
2024-25, Brodie's 5 Million will likely offset any chance of keeping both AM34 and Willy, but we hope that Topi is ready by then.
This sets Toronto up for a big year in 2025-26 with JT's money coming off the books. I see him settling in at around 5 million while he hands the C off to AM34 on the tail end of his career.

I love ROR-- but I don't like that deal.

I may be in the minority, but I have no interest in Bunting on a long term deal. His game is not going to age well.

Philosophically, I don't believe AM34 cares about who wears the C-- he may actually prefer it on someone else-- if not JT, maybe Mo.

You're a little steep on ROR, somewhere in the 4.5-5M should (hopefully) do it.

If Bunting signs that, I could probably live with it. A little less term.

As long as JT is here, he will wear the C. Can't imagine scenario where he hands it off while he is still on the roster.

I think JT will at some point, but i dont think he gets 5 mill I hope it will be a lower number, ROR should be lower too, from what i hear ROR is getting between 4-5 mill so if john is going to play the wing he should be getting less.

Kinda delusional that the Leafs are going to have "so much cap". If players like Matthews/Nylander or Marner get more money....so do a whole lot of other players too. Samsonov/Woll/Liljegren/Giordano's replacement, the RFA LWers.,
Wow, way too much ROR

I don't think there's a belief that there will be "so much cap" -- there is enough for next season if spent appropriately.

The question, and what is overlooked here, is how you fit in AM34, Nylander and other extensions in for the 24/25 season. The good news is, 25/26 should be reasonably easy with JT's cap hit presumably dropping a ton.

Considering the Cap constraints the last few years, the fact the biggest negative is the money issued was too much means the leafs situation is even better than I thought!

The AM24 and Nylander extensions are a Brodie sacrifice unfortunately, Cap growth of 2-3 mill + his 5 million gives us 7 million of growth in salaries with a young Dman backfilling. Hard to swallow for the one year, but we get way more room the next.

The first year of Matthews and Nylander's new deals will be a hard year to navigate. May result in a step back year but then the next year they will be much better due to the cap rising along with JT and Brodie taking big pay cuts.
