Can't see Wild taking the deal, which more or less disrupts all deals here. Foligno is too loved in the team with his physical play.

Winnipeg Politely declines and then calls you back to say.

We would like Ovi for an undrafted 25 year old player that will not play full time in the nhl, a guy we grabbed in the 5th round who will likely not make it, a guy who we do not want and is way overpaid and a high 1st and 2 high 2nds for him. Sound good?

IF they lose Graves, they would be pretty silly decline. Marty is solid. And depending on the playoffs, could be an even later 2nd

We're happy with a left side of Siegs Hughes Bahl. at a discount we'd take Fehervary tho

We’re fine on the left side and replacing Severson shouldn’t be an issue as well. I’m not into Fehevary and there are some very interesting prospects (Aram Minnetian, Adam Gajan and Etienne Morin) in the late 2nd that I’d rather take (we don’t have a first or third this year)

trading Fehervary to sign Graves would be an unbelievably colossal mistake

Even if you're a Marty fan, I'm not sure "unbelievably colossal" would categorize it. As it stands, I am not a fan. I think the Caps should absolutely offload him now before he's fully exposed as a replacement level defenseman and he loses all value to an overpriced contract. I know a lot of Caps fans love him, I just don't see it at all.

What part of Fehervary’s game has been “replacement level”? He’s been one of Washington’s best defensemen over the last two years offensively, has provided decent defense especially this year in the absence of Carlson+paired with Alexeyev, and he’s provided decent PK abilities in his short time here. Expecting Graves to play first pairing when he’s been playing under Siegenthaler in New Jersey seems like a stretch when Fehervary has done the same thing and would come cheaper to Washington. I can’t imagine they’d take a risk on a different defenseman instead of bridging Fehervary like they currently plan on doing.

But you're just saying things that aren't based in reality. Over the last two seasons, Fehervary has the 11th-highest points-per-game of any Caps' defenseman, worst of any regularly playing player, and ahead of only AA among currently signed players. He's 10th in ES SAT%, ahead of Sandin and AA, and 13th in SAT%Rel, worst among current players (only Gabriel Carlsson is behind him among any player still in the Caps organization). He's middle of the pack in terms of PK effectiveness. Fehervary and AA got caved in while playing together - 3rd worst GF% (36.4%) of any pair playing 60+ minutes together. He was the common factor among the three worst, actually - 2nd worst MF+TvR (33.3%) and worst Orlov-MF (0%).

By every metric, the Caps are in fact better off playing Lucas Johansen, who is widely accepted as a replacement level player. The only differentiator between the two that operates in Marty's favor is that he has the 2nd highest minutes played of all Caps' defensemen these last two years (behind Jensen). That's a coaching failure.

Graves has been a consistent top-4 player on Colorado and NJ. Rolling with a combo of him and Sandin is worth a gamble over keeping a player that actively hurts the team's chance of winning like Fehervary.
