As a Leaf fan I love those trades. But no reason for Coyotes or Caps to obtain one year rentals at that price.

Nylander will be selling his services to the highest bidder as an UFA (with no NMC he could and should be traded if a extension isn't done by Xmas) and I think Matthews takes a page out of J.T.'s book and back stabs the Leafs at the last moment and sign with an American team.

Image if both of them pack their bags and leafs (lol, silly pun).

100 % true.

I can only dream that the Leaf's GM can trade one and resigns the other.

I can't see the Leafs being able to afford to continue the $40 million Top 4.

Funny to think; the last 3 goalies to knock out the Leafs in the playoffs, Bobro ($10 million), Vasei ($9.5 million) and Price ($10.5 million).

hmm... meanwhile, the Leafs had Freddie ($5 million), Campbell ($1.6 million) and Sammy ($1.8 million).

maybe time to invest in better goalies ?

Maybe the Leafs shouldn't even worry so much about resigning them anyway. Let's say the Leafs have sit aside 13m for Matthews and 9m for Nylander but the players want more. I wouldn't worry, that gives the Leafs 22m to spend on other players. FANatics are strange. They love it when when a UFA from another team signs with THEIR team, but if a UFA walks from their team, the player is deemed to be a traitor or management didn't do even for the player to stay.
No reason to think that in by the summer of 2025, the Leafs will have Matthews, Nylander, Brodie, Tavares and Marner (among others) as UFA on the team. That's 45.5m or half the cap to rebuild the team in 25/26.

I'm certainly not blaming Samsonov, but Freddie makes 4.5m in Carolina and the Leafs are paying Murray 4.7m

The trade for Murray was because Dubas needed to restock Draft picks and he still has a hard on for his ex Greyhound players.

I expect to see Dubas get ex Greyhound Nick Cousins next.

In LeafLand, a 3rd and 7th is "restocking". Yeah, I think it's more about the Dubas's blind love for Greyhounds. I think Dubas and much of the Leafs management team should be gone.

You can't make this up, but it's true, all these Dubas Leaf additions were his ex Greyhounds.

Clifford,
Campbell,
Bunting,
Murray,
Timmons,
Ritchie,
McCann,
Hollowell,
Gaudett,
Gudbranson.

I don't recall Gudbranson on the Leafs but your point still stands.

McCann never played a game for the Leafs either,

Gudbranson played 2 seasons as a Marlie.

i don’t know why toronto would decide to tear it down like this but if extensions can’t be agreed upon then this is an option. assuming the caps can get a nylander extension done they should happily accept this trade. nylander would be a perfect fit for what the caps are looking for this off season and spent time growing up in dc while his dad played there. i must be missing something but this seems like a steal of a trade for a player of this caliber of an extension can be agreed upon though that may not be likely.

Because its that easy. Just invest in one.

You have to strike the luck wheel and develop one. Top 5 goalies aren’t available via investing. You have to develop

Agreed 100%. I do this trade every day of the week. I feel like the leafs aren’t getting enough value.

Wrong, remember both Knies and Robertson are future 40 goal scorers and Niemela will be a Norris trophy contender and Woll will be a future H.O.F. goalie.
